Revit Worksharing Long Distance Challenge

Hello Revit Forum,

If you do not know, Revit is not designed to workshare from a Central Model long distance (when users are in different states). Revit worksharing only works when users are within the same Central Model network. I am looking for this fact in writing from Autodesk because I need to convince to a client who is in multiple locations that this is true. Does anyone know if there is an Autodesk article that explains this in detail?

You might want to look into BIM360. Revit is quite capable of "long distance" worksharing from a central model.

You would be doing your client a disservice by convincing them it is true.

We cannot use BIM360 because our government client is in a secure work environment where third party ad-ins are not easily approved for use. BIM360 would be the solution in a private industry environment.

Is your client using Revit? Revit is already a 3rd party add-ins.

And they can use the primitive Revitserver with VPN.

Then Revit isn't your problem as it is fully capable of doing what you are trying to state it is not capable of doing.

BTW, BIM 360 wouldn't be 3rd party, it's still Autodesk.

My point is, Revit worksharing long distance is not capable on it's own without the assistance of BIM360 or some other program to facilitate this. In our unique case the challenge is getting BIM360, or anything else, approved for use in a secure environment.

Maybe it is your point but it's not what you said and as @ToanDN said it is still possible without BIM360.
