so i am an ACAD drafter in a metal deck roof specialist contractor company but recently we have a project that require designing in Revit. I am out of idea how to make a family for this metal standing seam roof panel. so, that I can lay it on top the steel purlin panel by panel not only as a pattern surface or interface. I've try the curtain panel by pattern and curtain wall panel families but nothing seem to work.

Several approaches:

- Use sloped glazing roof with system panels and keep the actual panel profile for details

- Use sloped glazing roof with custom panels, but the footprint of the roof must be a rectangle so that all panels are rectangle, then use a mass with solid form to cut the panels to re-shape the roof

- Use a mass > divided surface > adaptive family + repeater or pattern based family for panels

i am definitely gonna use mass as it is a shell type roof. then, create a simple curtain panel pattern with simple profile, probably like a mullion for the seam one both end?

couldn't agree more. I'm just too concentrate one the detailing but forgot about thar critical part. in the end it's all about the perimeters and area that matter for the client. maybe i should think about the detailing after the design stage. thanks a lot for reminding me this!

I wouldn't model the ribs in the Panel - and I would save that level of detail for Details. No different than you probably do now in AutoCAD. If you want to include them for aesthetic reasons (maybe for Rendering or shadow-casting), there are better ways to get there. But for planning and MTOs and QTOs and what not, using a rectangular shape is sufficient - and superior to what you produce in AutoCAD. Promise.

FWIW.

Divide or split meaning you make several smaller roofs from it:

- copyclip the roof

- paste aligned in place

- edit boundary of each and make each one a half (or smaller if you want to divide it even further)

However, it is better be done using mass > divided surface > curtain panel pattern base. You won't have the same limitation as sloped glazing.
