I basically have one wall in front of another wall but on of these two is a component model in place wall and I am trying to add a door or window to these two joined wall.

But when I do, It will only go thru one of the two walls. Does anyone know how to get the doors and windows to cut through both walls?

thanks in advance

Joining the walls not working?

If not, it sounds like the family is using a Void Cut and not a Opening Cut. In that case, make sure the Void Extrusion extends well beyond the Host Wall in the Family and use Cut Geometry to manually Cut the other Project Walls with the Void in the Family.

Post your Family here if you want us to look at it.

Edit: just looked at your picture. Making the void in the family longer should fix it.

Join geometry the walls. Use cut opening in the door or window family then it should cut both walls in project. If you use a void in the door or window family then the void should be long enough to cut through both walls in project.

You need to manually cut the Opening in the Project -- or use a Void Opening in the Family as mentioned above.

Why are you using an In-Place Modeled Wall in the first place? Maybe there's a better solution for that.

Same problem here, even if I create a void in the window family (long enough) this will cut just the wall where the window is placed. Seems like there's no relation (even after joint wall) between a model in place wall and a architectural wall. Here attached two screenshots.

Also I've tried with cut opening, same result.

In-place wall? Then edit the family, do not cut the host wall with the void, set the family to Cut with Void when loaded, and use Cut geometry twice to cut the system wall and the in-lace wall in the project.

Why does it need to be in-place model?

I created a void extrusion on the Model In Place wall. Then cut and select void and the wall behind. That will do it but the thing is that the window doesn't stretch to the second wall, bit annoying (see pictures).

How can I set the family to Cut with void when loaded?I'll try this way.

Thank you both.

It's working and it's a good solution for the moment.

The only annoying thing I have to find a solution for it's to automatically extend the window sill to the entire wall pack.

If you have any suggestion that would be great, otherwise I will start another topic later on 🙂
