I don't know what's going on either, but why don't you just Clipboard Copy/Paste contents into a brand new Family, and lose this weirdo Family?

Hello Everyone,

I'm having an issue with a family file that seems to think it's a central model. It will only let me save as and when I try to close it without saving it asks me if I want to synchronize with central...can families even be central models??

I created this family for use in a central model project. It does have shared parameters and one nested family. The nested family is one I created out of whole cloth. When I have tried to load this family into the central model it tells me that I'm trying to overwrite a family that isn't in the family or nested family. I'm at my wits end with this. Any body have any ideas?

Thanks!

Liz

Hello everyone!

I came here looking for some help due to I had to deal with this problem few days ago (I wanted to stop recieving this alarm window every time I opened this family). And well, I can share with you some steps to end with this problem fortunately!

1. First, from the .rfa file, change its file extension to .rft.
2. Second, create a new family using the previous .rft file as template and save it now as a new family.
3. Finally, open this family from any project file (as you were about to edit family) and save it again as a new file.

Hope you find it useful!

I'm a bit late to the party, but... I had this issue today, Liz.

I didn't want to use this family as a family template file (rft) because this then, essentially, locks down any of the elements therein. For example, I'd then be unable to delete any unwanted reference planes should I feel the need to. Didn't want to impose unnecessary restrictions on myself with this inherited family with which I'm not yet particularly familiar.

I also didn't want to simply copy/paste - because of the complex nature of the geometry and is reference planes / dimensions / parameters, which I'd be unable to copy / paste all together, needing to select some of those elements in plan view and some in elevation.

I found that simply loading the families into a project, opening them from within that project, and then doing a 'saveas - Family' seems to have done the trick.
