Hello everyone,

I recently went onto Revit 2024 to see and test the new features.

After a few researches around the top ribbon, i couldnt find the "Building Pad" button to edit the fresh new Topography.

Now i hear the Topography in itself has changed to a solid, with thickness and other options.

Is the Building Pad gone for good, and if so, is there a clean alternative to it.

PS: im on Revit LT, no access to the void volumes..

Thanks for reading.

Does Revit LT not have these tools? Sorry, I haven't used it before.

Either way, it'd probably be best if they just made another dedicated tool for this. Building pads weren't perfect, but they kinda threw the baby out with the bathwater on this one.

No, sadly REVIT LT doesnt offer access to those tools.
Funny thing is : if you modify a file created on Revit LT 2023 WITH a building pad already inside it, you can modify it, and even create more occurencies.
A solution i consider is creating a template on 2023 with a simple building pad, then start from this for any 2024 projects and "abuse" this "feature".

No more Building Pads...

but beside Mass Elements and Model in Place Families ( that are not available in LT) you ca use Walls, Floors and Roofs to Join with Toposolid. And , you can also create Void parametric Editable Families that can be used as Cut instrument...

I read that another option is to use the in-place wall tool, which can make a void. (I haven't tried it).

Hello there, i have created a Revit idea, asking for building pads come back.

Because there is no way to calculate cut and fills automatically. If you agree, please vote it here:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/building-pads-on-revit-2024/idi-p/11892239

It is not a good idea creating in place components or mass family as an efective workflow.

Yes, that's the biggest minus. Right now, I use Revit24LT I have to create a solid (from Wall in Place) then modify bottom, to make the slope, just to find out I have to do that many times (curved driveways) in order to cut off from TopoSolid. Waste of time.

I think Autodesk should just have left the toposurfaces in, with pads and everything - why not have both? I can see the benefits of the toposolids but surfaces have their advantages too - for one I've never been a fan of modifying sub elements on slabs which is the way you now edit the toposolids - annoying to say the least.... and yes, agreed, how are we supposed to do accurate cut/fill calculations? I see the voids do get subtracted out of the cut but to have the fill part added where the pad projects out of the ground I need to now create another solid and merge it? Double the work? Not sure what's going on... the old toposurface pads did both simultaneously.

I tried void extrusions, modelled in place walls, floors and shafts. None of which cut a topo surface.

They have removed ALL the surface editing tools, not just pads. How can I cut my building out of my topo surface?

I can't even edit my surface points to "flatten" the area at the building.

'Baby out with the bath water" is the perfect statement

We need them back

If a new tool is coming in, especially for LT, then add the new tools, but leave the old tool as an option, and educate for change through a transition period.

We have daily work processes that have been in place for years and you cant just take something out without affecting productivity and peoples livings.

even if a new tool is better, its takes time to transition to it and I have multiple projects on the go with 2023 and cant upgrade for fear of interrupting time constraints.

please put the Pads back!
