Revit LT 2024 Building Pads

While the new toposolid feature looks like an improvement and would be to be able to cut voids using in-place mass in the full Revit, anyone have any suggestions on how to do a building pad in Revit LT which doesn't have an in-place mass tool? Autodesk is suggesting making building pads using in-place mass voids but that's impossible in Revit LT.

yeah, in theory when you have the capability to use an in-place mass void this would work better than old building pads...but certainly not in Revit LT when you can't do an in-place mass. Only work-around I could think of is by making a void family to cut the toposolid but might get old doing it that way every time you need to edit a the shape of it

There are actually a few ways to do this in Revit LT. You can create a family that cuts the site. You can also use the split tool to create another potion of the site - change its type and lower that section for the building. Or you can use the Shaft opening tool to cut all the way through the site and then create another Toposolid for under the building. You can also use the In-place wall tool and model a void using those tools and then cut the Toposolid with this void. These ways will allow either simple or more complex geometry creation and offer some level of flexibility. Hope this helps a bit.

I think it'd certainly be helpful for AutoDesk to develop a new tool dedicated just to topography again, both for LT and the standard versions. There were some issues with building pads before, but it seems like you all really threw out the baby with the bathwater on this one.

Parametric Generic Models created as voids seems to work - probably best substitute for mass families.

Sometimes not being able to create in-place families is a good discipline

I generally agree, but not if things aren't going to be reused. Building shapes frequently irregular, so folks are going to have to create a bunch of single use families.

Thank you, but Autodesk really should not have taken away the very basic principle of being able to create a "building pad" in the LT version.

Autodesk please bring in massing for LT, even if just for site work please.

Make a new floor and name it air to a thickness that works. Cut Toposolid with air floor. Hide in view

Hi, the building pad functionality is still there. Just the button is missing to create them.

If you have a pad in your project then you can select it and use create similar to make a new one.

I guess that for a new project if you do want a pad then you could import one in from an older project then create similar and delete the import.

I also vote for the return of the PAD tool. We tried all of these options but none is as good as a PAD. Please do the right thing and bring it back.

I too wish for the building pad tool to be returned. At first I thought we now simply edit the sketch of the topo to cut a hole in it in lieu of creating a building pad. However, this totally whacks out the contours around the new hole. Major bummer!

Hi,

I have full Revit 2024 and I have converted an existing 2022 model to 2024. I tried using the mass in-place/component in-place tool to create a building pad. The problem is when I create the void form and choose the cut tool, it does not let me to select the topography and cut it, does anyone know why and how to fix it or any other alternatives to create my building Pad?

The elimination of the Building Pad tool in the REVIT 2024 LT version is nonsense !! AUTOCAD simply stop a tool from previous versions and don't replace it for anything !!???? This makes the our drawings impossible, and we were forced to keep the REVIT 2023 LT version. I suggest that AUTODESK review this situation and incorporate some kind of tool in the 2024 LT version that allows us to work with topography and excavation of volumes in a simple way as in previous versions. Will the new future versions look like these 2024 ???. Will AUTODESK take this fail forward? Will we have to settle into the REVIT 2023 LT version forever?

The PAD tool has to come back. It's an essential tool, and there is no replacement. Also, they should stop promoting an in-place Mass to cut topography. That is NOT what the Mass is for.

Great idea, @timstibbs

This is a pretty decent workaround. Only downside is that I get warnings that the in-place wall overlaps all of my basement walls. I found that you can use the same workflow, except by making another toposolid instead of in-place wall. After you make the main toposolid, make another toposolid type that's the pad depth, name it "Pad", and cut it out of the main toposolid. I joined the Pad to the basement slab and that took care of the overlapping slab warning.

Screenshot attached. Works as easily as the full Revit version (?), I think. Thots?

Forgot to mention that you may have to join footings to Toposurface so footing will display in front of Toposurface. But you prolly knew that...
