Family Rotation

I have a generic model (non hosted) family that I need to rotate between horizontal and vertical.

BigPicture045_0-1682031409152.png

However, when I rotate, it is rotating from the Ref. Level point of view. You can see here the Trim stays horizontal and now you are looking at a side profile of it:

BigPicture045_1-1682031424920.png

Can I switch the rotation of the family or is rotation always based on the Ref. Level in the family editor?

You can rotate a non host Generic Models family on an elevation. because it is still host by a Level. Workarounds:

- Make it a face based or work plane based family, and host it on a vertical work plane

- Change the family category from Generic Models to Mechanical Equipment or Fitting, make sure to tick Always vertical box, then you can rotate it in any direction in the project.

I did not have any luck with getting the family to rotate after changing the category and selecting always vertical. The rotation only on the Ref Level and not the elevation plane. The solution in my case will probably be using an addition family or type. Thanks ToanDN.

No you don't need additional families just so you can rotate them. Share the original family here.

So, I am avoiding all face-based or face-hosted families. It needs to be work-plane based. This is due to using these in groups and mirroring these groups. The non-work plane families I have been running into copying/mirror errors with groups.

Family attached.
