Hi @donnia.tabor-hanson

I'm not sure if I'm understanding the concept correctly, but after rereading the question, I wonder if you might be better off using a Keynote Schedule. In this approach, keys and notes are defined in a .txt file (acting as a dictionary) or maybe using lookup tables which is another method to store keys and their descriptions in a reusable dictionary for multiple projects.

In a Generic Annotation, if the note number is an instance parameter (as you suggested), that would mean the users will have to manually renumber it every time a new instance of the annotation is placed.

On the other hand, in a Key Schedule, the key itself would be an instance parameter (e.g., for a room), but in essence it functions more like a Type; at least in the sense that it remains a constant definition in a dictionary. It does not change unless explicitly redefined, which aligns with what you stated: A Key = Type, where the type acts as a predefined definition.

For your team to avoid renumbering generic annotations, the Note Number must be a predefined value within each family type. This means:

A Type Parameter → A Generic Annotation with multiple types, each assigned a unique number → Keys = Types.

If the key information/description parameter need also to be redefined (e.g., KEY1 always corresponds to Hello World and KEY 2 always corresponds to I Love NY), then the Key Description associated with the Note Number should also be a Type Parameter.

Final Structure:

You will have a Generic Annotation Family with multiple types, where each type contains:

A Type Parameter for the Note Number.

A Type Parameter for the Note Description.

Can a Note Block that schedules an Annotation family be used as a Key Schedule?

In particular, my teammates would like a generic annotation family to be able to help fill out a finish schedule. The keys would be types, but the note number would be an instance, so they don't have to renumber every project's annotation symbol. They also do not want to duplicate the tag and fill out the key information for every project.

Is this even possible?
