topic Modeling Face-Based Families on the Side Face of Host? in Revit Architecture Forum

Has anyone experimented with modeling face-based families on the side face of the host? My main reason for wanting to try this is so annotation symbols in face-based families that have the "Maintain Annotation Orientation" option selected display in the Legend Components when creating a legend.

(I have posted the annotation issue separately here:) https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture-forum/legend-components-w-annotation-symbols-in-face-based-families/td-p/12083912

It's never occurred to me to create a model on the "side" of the host element. I assume that you mean the edge of the host instead of the top/bottom face? Does it work, solve the issue in your other post?

Why don't you load the same symbol family in the project and place it in the Legend view?

@SteveKStafford It didn't work for this particular issue. Modeling it on the edge of the host does work though. The drawback is that when trying to place it on a vertical face, you must use the Workplane option which grays out the Elevation from Level parameter. I'd imagine there may be other drawbacks that would reveal themselves eventually.

@ToanDN Yeah that's something I've considered, and I may ultimately settle on that. Or I may create the symbols legend using detail lines and such. Unless the generic annotation families were Shared, there would be no correlation to the annotation in the legend and the one in the family anyway. I'm not super keen on having all of those symbols living in our electrical template just for the purpose of creating a symbols legend.
