Thank you for your responses. Yes, I know I could use a pattern, but I was just curious to know whether it was possible to use a panel-based curtain system as I need to model precast panels with tile inlay with herringbone pattern. I wanted to model the inlay in 3D with the thickness and correct joint width, but I will just do a 2D pattern or model manually if a pattern-based curtain wall solution is not available.

Hello,

Would someone know how to create a herringbone pattern of a tile that 246mm long and 60mm wide using the divided surface / curtain wall pattern based mass tool in Revit? I tried a different approaches but could not make it work.

Kind regards, Vincent

the herring bone pattern can be found in the Revit.PAT file. it is a fairly simple formula...

*HerringBone 2x6, brick herringbone
;%TYPE=MODEL
45, 0, 0, 2, 2, 6, -2
135, 1.414, 1.414, 2, -2, 6, -2

copy the 4 lines and rename it appropriately. then edit the numbers to what is needed.

See below. We have a templates that allow you to create standard patterns immediately, and the herringbone one is completely free. Make as many as you want and save to your account. Process as such:

Using Pattycake to make Herringbone File

Note that it gives you some warnings, because some of the values are out of the 'suggestions' range from Autodesk (click here to learn more).

However, I checked, and this one does import fine to Revit as-is:

See here: https://pattycake.io/pat/0d35n2RPVBJ

Cheers.

What you could do is use a Basic Curtain wall or a Sloped Glazing then add/remove Grid Segments which is fairly simple but can be quite tedious if you have large areas to cover. Applying a material pattern/image in such case would be a more practical approach

My first question is, why?

Why do you need a Haring bone Curtain wall pattern?

Are you actually making a curtain wall, or are you trying to make floor/wall tiles?

If you're making a floor pattern, just use a 3/8" thick floor (with a 3/8" offset) and apply a surface pattern. As @RDAOU shows, there is No easy process to making this. It is not a "pattern", it is a curtain grid that has had specific lines manually removed to create the effect.

Depending on the size of the inlay, a "curtain wall" may not be too cumbersome to do, my example took me 15 min +/-. In general, though, I'd just use the Split Face and Paint a tile material on it. For an extra effect, you can apply a Bump map to the material to make the tile render with a texture.
