I'm trying to set up a titleblock which automatically shows the right status description when the status code is typed in.

I have a "Suitability" text parameter that gets typed in on each sheet. I then have each of the suitability descriptions as text with a visibility parameter. I'd like to set the titleblock up so that if you type

"S3" into the Suitability Code parameter, the correlating description is made visible.

I would have assumed that you could check the visibility parameter with the function <Suitability = "S3">, but this brings up an 'Improper use of boolean expressions' warning

Apologies, I thought I'd responded to this!

We need to be able to accommodate roughly 13 different suitabilities. Nested generic annotations would work well for showing the information in the titleblock, but I'd ideally like to have this controlled by the 'Suitability' text parameter, as this is used to automatically name plotted/exported files.

You can have the Suitability Text be set based on a Family Type dropdown by doing something like this.

In this example I am comparing the "Suitability Choice" parameter to see if it equals one of the "family type" type parameters ("S1", "S2") that are set to the individual options.

If you have 13 options you will need 12 of these helper parameters as with nested if statements, if any of none of the preceding conditions are met the final "false" value can be your 13th option.

Revit allows you to compare 2 different "Family Type" parameters to see if their values are equal in formulas and then output a text value.

Mike,

This is about 50% of a solution, however this doesn't then change the Suitability parameter in the project, and I'm trying to control the titleblock text with the Suitability parameter, rather than the other way around.

In my example I am using the Suitability Choice (family type parameter, instance) to create a drop down.

That parameter is then compared with the values of the S1 and S2 (also family type parameters, that are type based) to see which one it matches.

Using a formula in the Suitability parameter (text parameter, instance) I am outputting the text value which can then be put into a label in the titleblock.

So to recap, we make a selection with Suitability Choice and compare it to the helper parameters S1 & S2, and then output text into the Suitability parameter.

So this works for changing the Generic Annotation on the titleblock, however this doesn't then change the text in the Suitability label, nor can it be scheduled or printed when the titleblock is used in a project

I think I understand the issue.

The parameter within the titleblock is assigned to the titleblock element but then in the project it is set to sheets as well and Revit does not allow you to change a the value in a sheet parameter using a formula in a titleblock family.

If you remove the project parameter assigned to sheets you would be able to have the text change in the titleblock but then you wouldn't be able to schedule the value in a sheet list.

I think it's exactly that, which is a little frustrating, particularly given that a label can read a sheet parameter.

Are there any other ways to set this up so that the parameters are at least in the same properties pallet, rather than having to tell people to change the Suitability sheet parameter and then use the drop down in the titleblock parameter?
