When I render a 3D floor plan, the shadows casted onto the floor are rather dark and sharp. I already lowered the shadows in the render settings to the lowest they'll go. I've looked up solutions but haven't found any that actually made them appear lighter. I attached a picture of an example.

A few things you can check:

Sun Settings

Go to Graphic Display Options - Sun Settings.

Try switching from Still to Lighting - Interior: Sun Only or Sun and Artificial to soften the contrast.

Sun Intensity

In Render Settings, reduce Sunlight Intensity and increase Artificial / Ambient lighting if available.

Location and Time

If the sun angle is very low (morning/evening), shadows will appear sharper and longer.

Try adjusting time of day closer to midday.

Exposure Control (after render)

Open the rendered image and adjust Exposure Settings.

Increasing Highlights and Shadows brightness usually softens dark shadow areas.

Materials / Floor Reflectance

If the floor material has very low reflectivity, shadows will look darker.

Increasing material reflectance or brightness can help balance the lighting.
