Dimension text in line with dimension

So - is it possible to have a dimension style setup that shows the dimension text inline with the dimension - without having to move it?

I have been looking but cannot seem to do it - is it possible and I am just missing it?

I've been searching a solution for long time, but i think is not possible.

Surely API can solve it.

The dimension style that you have described is our office standard in PowerCAD and I was hoping to translate it over to Revit. I tried negative offsets, which obviously did not work, and couldn't think of any other workarounds. Then a "genius" idea came to mind, why don't I duplicate an Ariel font and lower the origin of the numbers so that they show up lower than a typical Ariel font.... after spending time on making a new .ttf font Revit proved to be a tough opponent (as it always does).

It appears as though Revit uses the lowest point of the text within the dimension as its orgin point so despite the lowered text family that I made the result was no closer to the desired look. Have you had any forward movement in this battle since you posted over a year ago?

I realize this is an old thread, but I, too, am looking for an In Line dimension option because it's one of our biggest client's standards.

We are moving to Revit and now there's this stumbling block. A few nay-sayers are going to be delighted to hear this one.

Seems like a simple thing for Autodesk to provide...

This is as far as I have been able to get..... with opaque text and a text offset of 0".

This is possible but not without using the API/Dynamo. I traded a message with John Pierson earlier and he said a custom Dynamo node in Python or C# can deal with positioning the text "manually" for you, automatically. If you visit the Dynamo BIM forum site you can post your query there, you can contact John at his consulting firm (EvolveLabs) about creating the graph for your firm so it works how you want it to work. He's also @60secondRevit on Twitter.

Then again, maybe a Dynamo user here will work something up for you?

Hi Rick,

I will update this thread as soon as I publish an update to my Dynamo
package Rhythm. I have a few other things I am fixing and don't want to
push an update prematurely.

John, thank you for posting the updated Rhythm.

In full disclosure, I am new to using Dynamo. I have followed the previous GIF for setting up the solution, but I receive an error stating the Warning: Dimension.CentertextOnLine operation failed. attempt to set length of zero length vector. I'm sure I've done something wrong, please advise.

Thank our for the quick reply. I had just begun a task to clean up a very old model that was badly done so it may be used again. Unfortunately that is the model I used to test the centering of dimension text. I didn't want to send that to you as it is a mess. I opened a newer model with updated standards and tested the CenterTextOnLine command and it works as expected. My apologizes, next time I will use a model that I am not embarrassed to share with others. Thank you for sharing quality work.

the node seems to make the text jump way up or below the dimension line...

I just downloaded the Rhythm package, so I guess this is the latest "centertextonline" node?

Maybe it does not work for v.2?

It will be great to change the dimension style to get that result..

but If its one off then a line based family can be easy to use..

line based family, annotation text mapped to dimension lengthin project, use annotation , pick two point to get that dimension.Screen cast uploaded here.
