Archicad to Revit Import

I have a very expensive piece of software that I can't use and haven't been able to use for some time. Before I activate this upgrade to Revit, is there any way to take completed Archicad 18 BIM models and translate them?

Also is there a way to tranfer the account to another reseller?

Hello. I've just created a support request you from this forum thread and someone from our technical support team should be following up shortly.

For future reference / as you had raised this in your other post, as a Subscription customer you have direct access to Autodesk support which in this case would be web based due to the level of your agreement (Subscription Support Matrix). To create a web based support request you would want to follow the steps outlined in the article below. This would also be how you request a reseller change.

Not sure I fully follow your issues here--??

However, have you looked into IFC format? There are a lot of posts and information on the web regarding Revit and IFC file compatability.

The truth is, there is zero chance that you will take a Archicad model and bring it into Revit and have a 100% fully functional Revit model--

there is no "magic conversion" application or plug-in that I am aware of.

The 2 platforms are similar, but yet very different and were never designed to be bi-laterally compatible.

Same thing with bringing in models from Sketchup, 3dsMax, Microstation, FormZ, AutoCad 3D, etc.

BIM is a very ambiguous term. The different flagship BIM programs all have merit, but were created by different companies, with different customer-bases,

and are competitors in the AEC market. IFC is a great idea--and perhaps someday there will be an "open-source" BIM format--but we are no where near being there yet. So--to avoid frustration, learn what the possible options are, and do your best to accept the current limitations and then decide on a SINGLE BIM platform and roll it out--from the top down.

Using an IFC file to import to Revit is going to be the best bet. The IFC file may not have 100% fiedelity but it should be close.

If it is just about being able to view the file later, You could consider exporting to an NWC file from ArchiCAD. This is a Navisworks file. That can be viewed in Navisworks of the online A360 viewer.

Lets start with the assumption that having both Archicad and Building Premium Suite, that I know a little about IFC. (and thanks Autodesk, but I am somehwat familair with the "internet" and have been using ACAD since v. 2.0)

The request is simple. I have fully developed BIM models in ArchiCad 18 and I need for an engineer to look at them in Revit. Fast.

I can easily do the reverse. What I need is a reliable cross-platform translator for attorneys, engineers, laypersons, etc. Can this be done or is cross-platform unique to Graphisoft. Yes. or. No.

OK--tell us what you do know about IFC. All ears.

Have you exported IFC from Archicad and brought it into Revit? If so, what were the results? What were the problems you encountered?

What exactly do "lawyers, engineers and lay-persons" need to look at it? Do they all have Revit to begin with?

( I'd be REALLY careful before handing any BIM over to a lawyer.)

There are a LOT of questions here. If you give us some more detailed discussion, perhaps we can help more at solving your issues.

No. There is no such thing as a "perfect cross-collaboration tool" to get perfect results in Revit from Archicad. ( and I'd bet it's the other way around as well.)

Statements about "using the internet" and "having used Acad since v 2.0" do no good here. Try to be more focused on the actual problem at hand

as we are here trying to help you on our own time and merit.

FWIW--Maybe you should consider using Revit as your main modeling software, so your "engineers" can actually collaborate using the same platform.

This is where Autodesk excels and Archicad does not. Just sayin'.

I do construction litigation support. You know, cleaning up after arrogant ____ (insert "a" word) that think they know everything.

Obviously no clue how to tweak the latest IFC translator.

Do not waste my time by attempting to parse semantics.

When you spend your days, weeks, months, and years looking at photos of dead people because somebody doesn't know how to read NFPA, we can have a frank discussion about "arrogant". Until then, I have a court case to prepare for and you guys have too much time on your hands.

I take that you have access to both ArchiCAD and Revit (at least a trial if you don't want to activate). Why don't you run an IFC exposrt/import test with one of the model and see for yourself?

And spare the drama, nobody cares if you are an old wise grandma or pa, fluent in NFPA, spending days looking at at dead people photos.

The cross platform translator is IFC. To make sure you have the most up to date IFC translation install the IFC add-in for Revit https://apps.exchange.autodesk.com/RVT/en/Detail/Index?id=appstore.exchange.autodesk.com%3aifc2016_windows32and64%3aen

This will have the most up to date translators. Autodesk uses open source for IFC so the community can add to the capabilities.

It appears as though ArchiCAD offers some options when exporting to IFC so you may needs to adjust those settings to get the best result.

Outside of IFC, Revit does not have the ability to open an ArchiCAD file.

I'm pretty sure two people can have a frank discussion about "arrogant" regardless of their various experiences.

You think that we can't because your experience gives you some kind of superior insight into what arrogance is. Ironically, that is arrogance on your part.

See? I was able to frankly discuss arrogance even though I don't look at photos of dead people very often. Looking at photos of dead people is not a necessary component of developing arrogance, but it obviously can be a contributing factor, as is demonstrated by you. Nor is it a necessary component of understanding arrogance and having the ability to discuss it, as is demonstrated by me.

It seems that the URL you had sent for the ArchiCAD help, came up as a page not found. I am still trying to source a solution for converting an Archicad model either into a Revit file or an AutoCad file if that is possible?

You need ARchiCAD (trial maybe okay) to open the file and export it to DWG or IFC.
