Hello,

I am working on a Room schedule, with the "Include elements in links" checked.

I can include the "Level" parameter and use it to Sort/Group the rooms in my schedule, however, I cannot FILTER by Levels...

Is there any reason why th eLevel value can be used to sort and group by not filter by?

This is a huge limitation, expecially considering that filtering by level is a logical way to split a shedule accross multiple sheets.

Also, for each given floor plan, we want to show only rooms, or other elements, actually belonging to that plan (that is, on that level)...

Thank you

it is true that Level is not available as Filter option when Include Elements in Links is checked....but Sorting/Grouping is....

Anyway , the problem can be solved using Number if it has a prefix ( for instance GF01....12 - for ground floor; 1F01....;2F01) and Filter by Number> Contains = GF....1F....2F ...and so on....

I prefer this Filter instead of Level Filter even when I do not use Include Elements in Links especialy when I have more work Levels (as intermediate floors or terrain level....)

Yeah, using the Room number parameter could work, but that implies that the rooms are already numbered properly, and also it leaves the schedule vulnerable to user error, instead of relying on the BIM database to correclty filter rooms.

This seems to be a little bug rather than fature, since, again, the schedule is already able to access the value of the levels for the rooms in linked models, and use it to sort/groups the list, so it is quite puzzling why the schedule cannot filter by that same parameter (Level).

Thank you though,

hopefully another fix for future releases...

Regards

gio

A huge disappointment, indeed. Of course, there is a workaround to filter using Number / Begins with... but it leaves space for user numbering errors to mess up my schedule.

Not to make excuses, and i understand the situation is frustrating, but this is less of a "bug" and more of a technical limitation. Meaning is was not a "mistake" in the code, but more of an issue of the way things are currently implemented for linked files that makes this technically very difficult.

It has been logged and is a known limitation, just very difficult to come up with a change to make it possible without a tremendous amount of work in how linked files work in all of Revit.

OK, good this is known. What would be your suggested workflow to ensure I can get room schedule in my MEP drawing from Rooms that are in linked Architectural Revit file, and so that my room schedule looks exactly like architect's room schedule?

@loboarch wrote:

...just very difficult to come up with a change to make it possible without a tremendous amount of work in how linked files work in all of Revit.

How about introducing new parameter like LevelOfLinkedModel?

you are being obtuse on purpose. wonderful you found a work around. but it is a very small ask to get to filter linked elements by level. lots of people have work arounds, but we should not have to do more work. autodesk should do the work to solve this problem so my team does not have more tasks.

also your work around requires manually running the space names and rooms names to work. what happens when the architect changes the the room names on your without telling you?

Also i want to filter other things by level when they are linked like plumbing fixtures. There is no work around for that besides copy monitor. which is similar to created spaces if they are not needed. i should not have to copy things to a model to sort by level.

To your first paragraph - it might seem a small ask, but as already hinted in this thread, it requires a fundamental re-do of how Revit works with linked elements. I would not necessarily assume it actually is a "small ask".

To your second paragraph: Especially as an engineer, I will always have to turn Rooms into Spaces - for obvious reasons. So that alone is by no means an additional inconvenience (aside from the fact that it literally takes no more than 60 seconds). BIM and/or Revit don't make professional communication obsolete, quite the contrary. Changes need to be communicated, in one way or another, especially for documentation and liability reasons; check out Bimcollab for the easiest and most efficient way (subjective opinion ;)).

To your third paragraph: You are right, I can understand the frustration here. We started reproducing the fixtures (plumbing, electrical, etc.) ourselves in order to properly use them in schedules. But that does take time and effort.

I didn't mean to sound cocky, but turning Rooms into Spaces (especially as an Engineer, come on) is literally one of the first things you do in a model with a linked ARC-file.

It is standard procedure to create spaces for most MEP needs. But not all of them. My electrical team does not require them if they are not doing lighting calculations.
The split and place tool in 2022 actually solves some of these problems in a very round about way. You have to delete the ones on other sheets if they are not needed. But that actually does what i am asking for. What is nice is you can copy and past from sheet to sheet the trimmed down LVL 2 schedule.

This will be super helpful but very convoluted to explain to my users. Thank you @ToanDN.

As new elements are added, I feel that this will not keep up because there is only a manual length to associated this schedule to a level instead of a keyword that is filtered.

The tool is nice and quick if you want the schedule splitted to equal segments and placed at the same spot on every sheet.

But you don't have to use the Split and Place tool in an automatic away. Do it manually if you want more control: place a schedule on sheet, split it to create segments, rename them under the schedule tree, then place each individual segment on the intended sheet.
