Why don't you use the Trees found in the Planting Folder of the OOTB Library?

Hello All,

I am a Revit Lt user.

I'm trying to create a 2D Tree block to drop into my elevations.

I thought I could just create a Detail Family and drop it in. But, it seems that detail fam's only work in plan view.

Does anyone know if they can be used in elevations too?

Or, is there a better way to drop in 2D elevational trees ?

Thanks,

You can place 2D details in Elevations and Sections, commonly most situations like yours are that the details will have possibly been drawn in a Plan View in the Family itself so will only allow allow this viewpoint.

Try dropping it in to a Front View and see if this works?

Feel free to share the family for review

Hi,

You can create custom 2D detail items which you can use in elevation.

here is a nice site you can download trees in DWG format: https://pimpmydrawing.com/trees

Thanks!
I only have a floor plan view in the Metric Detail Item family, so I can't draw in any elevation view.

Is the Metric Planting family commonly used and is it worth doing a tutorial on do you think?

I understand better now. That is just a 2D plan view of a Tree and can be used on any work plane. Below is a Detail Item which i have placed in an Elevation

I would recommend using a 3D tree Family as it is visible in all views.

Detail works for plan, elevation and section. I assume you see a lot of 2d plan trees and not much for elevation. If you want to download elevation trees, you can check out this website

https://measuredsurvey365.co.uk/revit-plant-families-download/

Also you can use font to represent the trees. However for other people to see this object, they need to install the font in their computer.

https://www.dafont.com/trees-tfb.font

You could create 2D Detail Groups from them.

Place one in Project,

go to Elevation,

isolate Tree in View,

Export to DWG,

Import DWG back into Revit,

use Pick Lines Tool and TAB Key to trace the tree outline with Detail Linework,

Create a Detail Group of this Detail Linework.
