MODEL IN PLACE - Void issues

Hi,

I have this in place model to make my (very old) facade work. In the same model, where I did the solid parts, I did some voids to cut the solids and to cut some parts of a regular system wall sweep (highlited bellow).

The issue is: now I need to adjust the facade with new info, and I just can't find the voids cutting the sweep! They're there, doing what they're supposed to do, but cannot be found. I can find and edit the void cutting the solid parts of the model.

Before you ask, yeah I did try to hover the pointer over the edges. And I have no trouble to edit the model itself. Just the voids.

Hello,

I'm not sure than this is best method but i use these steps to edit void:

1. Set my model in wireframe visual style.

2. Select and edit solid surface, Than in orange i see cutting edge. I select this edge and when i edit him void show his boudaries.

Thank you, @www.TechRoom.bg. The thing is, the void showing in orange I was already able to select and edit. The ones marked with red Xs still missing, and they're the ones I need to adjust.

You have to select the host of the void in order for the void itself showing.

@ToanDN, the void is inside the model in place component. By selecting the system wall sweep family, I can only edit the whole custom component, not the actual void extrusion inside (which still missing).

Can you extract the model in place to a new file and upload it?

Mmmm... I need to check on monday. I'm guessing my intern unmade the family and tried another approach earlier today. But I'm pretty sure I have a backup somewhere. Thank you in advance!

@ToanDN, as promised, the weird model attached. It's a 2015 model. I ask you to please maintain the version if you find a solution, because I don't have any 2016 available.

It is not a void. It is an edited profile of the wall.

Select the wall and click "Edit Profile"

No, it is a void, inside a model inplace cutting the wall sweep. I'm pretty sure of it, because I did it myself.

Please take a closer look to the previous posts.

Ok, I was thrown off by the tag. 🙂

Very strange situation. Seems like something happened. Voids were created in the in place family and cutting objects outside the family.

Apparanetly because they do not cut anything inside the inplace family only objects outside the inplace family you do not seem to be able to reach them.

This gave me an idea how to access them....make sure they do not cut anything outside the in-place family.

It's a powerful and easy way to do things avoiding building large in-place models, and this is the first time that went wrong. However, all the times I did it, the void was the only object inside the in-place model.

Hi Guys,

I know this was solved a long time ago, but what would be done if the wall was a curved wall?

With curved walls in Revit you can not Edit their profile.

I currently have some curved walls with voids cutting them, but I can't find them to edit them.

Any ideas?

You should be able to select the openings within the wall I think (maybe use tab)? Perhaps check phasing if you can't select those.

I use this style of Void in a "Model in place family" to cut stuff outside the "Model in place family" all the time. Especilay now with the new Toposolids in 2024 version. Anywasy, i have this problem all the time. Pretty sure its a Phasing thing.... IE "Model in place family" needs to be same phase as what the void inside it is cutting for it to be able to select/edit said void with-in. So work flow is generally change pahse to exisiting, edit void, chenge back to new when done.
