Chris - thanks for the reply

I understand that I can set the fill pattern for model, but I need it to be drafting. Here is what I am doing.

I have several parition walls on my floor plan. In a different floor plan view, I want to do something else. I have a instance parameter for the walls so I can designate each partition wall with a different hatch. I use a view filter that will show a hatch based on the instance parameter attached to the wall family..

So, for example, if I have partitiion wall that is 1A, show this hatch, 2K, show that hatch. I did not want to create a different wall for each type since they are all "partition wall" family. I thought I could keep it simple by just using one wall type with instance parameters. Using the fill pattern for model, yes it works but that is for a material in cut pattern and that is a model fill pattern. When using the view filter fill pattern is for drafting. I select "aligh with element", but it will not adjust.

Does that help?

Jleibold

The image posted is not showing a change to use a model pattern. It is showing the setting for a fill pattern host orientation. The fill pattern itself can be set to rotate as the host rotates.

http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2016/ENU/?guid=GUID-02C84BD3-8CFC-40D4-8E21-A195A3C0BB2B

Correct? Or am I missing something?

I have tried all three options...

Visibility and Graphics overrides will not affect the host orientation settings of a fill pattern. (Even though the control is there, probably should be grayed out?) To do this with a visibility and graphic override you will need 2 fill patterns. You could then use an override with the filter to apply the "alternate" fill pattern that is oriented to the host element.

I did not verify this will work, but it should.

Why does it have to happen with a filter? Why not just change the fill pattern ot orient to the host globally?

Revisiting this issue...

I have gone back to this project & have tried to "keep readable to host layer" by changing...

Manage>Settings>Additional Settings>Fill pattern - no luck

I made sure that the material was correct and had the same fill pattern assigned to it under projection and cut - no luck

I have read this http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2016/ENU/?guid=GUID-02C84BD3-8CFC-40D4-8E21-A195A3C0BB2B - no luck

this works.....

doesn't work.....

kinda works...

The steel beam image is not at an angle - works.

The other two are lintels...

This is a drafting view fill pattern located in the material.....

All the filters have been remvoed

I cannot make this work on an angled object - using a cross hatch pattern -

At a loss as what to try next....

I know this should be very simple and straight forward but...

Jleibold

You should go into the wall family itself, edit type> edit> click three dots next to material desired to change> click cut pattern in material browser dialogue box> click the pencil to edit> then click Orientation drop down to orient to element. This is a drafting pattern. You sadly can't change to a wall pattern to a model pattern.
