Working Sections in Revit multidiscipline template

I see that the Revit multidiscipline template has a "Working Section" already present, and also useful at least for me when trying to check that the wall construction is OK in various sections of the building.

What I was able to learn about this "Working Section" by studying the template is:

- it is of type Working Section as opposed to the default section type of Building Section - so the template designers made a conscious decision to put it there and make a special section type for it.

- some of the views in the template and also some of the View Templates in the template have a filter defined to be able to show or not show the Working Sections of the model.

- it is assigned to the Overall Views Section Box

- since it is assigned to that section box, then it only makes sense that the clipping plane as well as the section symbols to the ends of the section are "STUCK" to the Overall Views section box.

Of course there is only one "Working Section" in the template, and one would like to create a second one, with the same behavior in order to be able to check wall construction details in the other direction in plan views. Here starts my problem:

- When I use Create Similar command, I still get a Building Section type, even though the Create Similar tool should use the same type as the original object (I would expect it to use a Working Section type)

- when I assign the Overall Views scope box to the new section, I see that the section boundaries are indeed fixed to the correct section box, but the section symbols at the ends are not...

Any explanation why the Create Similar tool does not mimic the section type?

Any idea how I might make the section symbols stick to the assigned Scope box?

PS: I was able to eventually duplicate the Working section, and it retained it's behavior w.r.t. scope box boundaries, by using the rotate tool with copy option enabled. But I'm wondering if there is another way to create one from scratch rather than use the existing one all the time... or rather: How does one create a section that sticks the section symbols to the assigned scope box???

I'm not sure what your question is. "Working Section" is the name of a Section Type in this RTE. Other than that, I don't see anything special about the View itself. But if you want to another Section View to use the exact same settings, you could Create View Template from View and apply this VT to another Section View.

Almost sounds like you are asking about to create a Reference Section. That's done via Reference Other View.

I think I understand what you are asking now. Draw a Section Mark in Section/Elevation View, then go to Plan View and Crop and Uncrop View. Watch how the new Section Mark's extents change.

You can also "stick 'em", as you put it, by drawing the Sections in Elevation View. Did you try that? Draw "Working" Section in Elevation, assign Scope Box to Section Marker Properties, and then return to Floor Plan and examine behavior of the new "Working" Section. Isn't this an alternative to rotating the Scope Box in Plan View?

YES, I tried it and it works like you described, but it only solves half the question.

- When I create it in elevation, and assign it to the Scope Box, then indeed the section markers stick in a plan view. But they do not stick in the elevation view where I created the section;

- Conversely, when I create it in a plan view and assign the scope box, then it starts to be stuck in the elevation views, but not in the plan view.

- Whereas the rotated copy sticks in any view.

I wonder what is the explanation for that... Revit is truly intricate, if you really want to dig deep... 😄
