Hi, I was hoping someone on here could help me. I have recently bought a new laptop. My main use for the laptop is to use and learn Revit Architecture. I have installed the Revit Architecture 2016 - Student on the laptop. I am experiencing some issues when I try to run Revit. Sometimes the programmes opens, lags andthen freezes and other times it just doesnt open at all and doesnt get past the opening splash screen.

When buying the laptop, I was assured that the spec which I have listed below would have no problem running revit and othe design applications. However, since buying the laptop, I have read some reports that the graphics card i have listed, does not support Revit. I have also recently noticed that when I tried to enable / disable the graphics accelerator, that there was warning note saying that revit had not been tested to run with the installed graphics card. FYI - the laptop is currently running on windows 10

Could you please look over the spec below and comment on whether or not you think I may have a compatibilty problem? Any advice you could offer is really appreciated!

Thanks!

Satellite P50t-C-109 Part number: PSPTUE-00H005EN
TPP £ 1,099.99 (inc VAT)

Windows 8.1 64-bit (pre-installed)
– free upgrade to Windows 10 Home when available.

5th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-5200U Processor with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0

39.6cm (15.6”) , Toshiba TruBrite® Ultra HD TFT High Brightness touch display with LED backlighting, 16 : 9 aspect ratio, 282 pixel per inch, colour calibrated by Chroma Tune™, Technicolor colour certified

Hard disk 1TB HDD + 8GB SSD Solid State Hybrid Drive

Satin gold brushed aluminium finish

12,288 (8,192 + 4,096) MB, DDR3L RAM (1,600 MHz)

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX™ 950M with NVIDIA BatteryBoost™ and NVIDIA® Optimus™ Technology

maximum life : up to 5h30min (Mobile Mark™ 2014)

weight : up to 2.40 kg

W x D x H : 380.0 x 259.9 x 23.5 mm

Revit Arch and most 2016 Autodesk products are NOT COMPATIBLE with Windows 10 OS. They may install but will not function properly or will be missing things or have strange behaviors.

The graphics card is a gaming card...not a CAD card. It will have issues with displaying data in some of the Autodesk software

Windows 8.1 is a COMPATIBLE OS as far as I understand....try downgrading to this OS and reinstalling the Autodesk software

If this is not possible, try returning the laptop for a refund and getting something better. (the processor is a little weak)

Go into the BIOS and disable the Optimus. Sometimes you may have to not use the latest and greatest video drivers though. It's kind of hit and miss. I use the latest for my GTX 970 and Revit works great, but I never install beta drivers.

And yeah, technically gaming cards are not supported, but they work a lot better in Revit (and are cheaper) and add-ins like Lumion and Revizto recommend higher end gaming cards.

Here is a post explaining how to disable the Optimus:
