Visibility and Graphic Display : Problem

We have a problem with the "Visibility and Graphis Display" box. More specifically, the "Annotation Categories" box.

In one model, it takes like 10-15 minutes before we can have access to the modification box when we are clicking on it.

In another one, We just never have access to it because Revit is always trying to open it and it never does. So we always have to close Revit and re-open it to continue working...

It began in the first model and I think that happened in the second model when I transfered some of the project standards from the first model (like object styles, light weights or line styles).

You can see in the attachment file that it stucks to "Model Categories" when we click on "Annotation Categories".

What can be the causes of all this?!

We are using Revit 2015.

I have no clue, but would start researching from basics (Revit Updates - and there's lots of them for 2015, Windows Updates, etc).

There are Revit or CAD links? Imported Objects? Lots of these things tend to overload your model.

I don't think Revit or Windows are the problem...We do have the last update of Revit and we're using Windows 7.

In the second model, we have 8 linked models (for mechanical and structure mostly).

We have other models that are fine and much more loaded...that's why I don't understand why this one doesn't work properly...It was fine and quick before I transfered some parameters...The problem doesn't seem to be the model weight...

We opened the file on 3 different computers.

It does that on every computers...so the problem must come from the file.

Makes total sense. Have you already tried to run audit while opening?
Unload all links and reload one by one?

I did run an audit yesterday and unload/reload the linked files. Didn't work.

I now tried to delete all the linked files, run an audit (redid a central file at the same time) and relink de files. Still do the same...

(I tried to click on "Annotation Categories" before relink the files, so the linked files are probably not the problem).

Perhaps it will help if I say that it takes forever to synchronise too...last week, it was almost instantly...

Mmmm... Looks like a major change happened... Maybe a complex family, with
to much geometry or too much formulas?... Monitored copies of links?...

Like I said, the only thing that changed is that I transfered project standards for the lines (line weights, line styles, object styles...). I'm pratically sure it comes from there...I tried to purge everything I can but it still doesn't work.

The only elements that are monitored are the axis, which we never have problems with...

Linetypes do not make sense with this mess.

any chance you can restore a backup from before you transferred your project standards?

also do you know what standards you were specifically transferring? It would be worth trying it on a new file and see if the same thing happens - if you can isolate the particular element it might help to resolve the problem.

I thought about restoring a backup but we already did too much work to go back....

I did what you say and transfered each parameter one at a time in a new file. It seems to work perfectly in this one...so it might not be the problem and maybe it comes from a family after all...I'm so confused...

It's a long shot, but makes more sense. Try to locate any hard-core family
and delete/purge from the model. Just to test the theory.

You need to weigh up what is going to cost you more time in the long run - redoing some work or working with a file that is inherently slow. In my experience the former is usually the better long term option.

Other things you could try is deleting out groups of families and see if at any point it resolves the issue - if you know what areas you've been working on you might be able to narrow this down a bit - you could also try comparing old and new files to see what families have been added (someone might know a quick way of doing this) - probably best to do this on a copy of your file rather than the original. If it is a family issue and this identiifies which family it is then you can remove the same one from your original file.

This won't be the quickest solution ever but it might help resolve the issue. It's hard to know what else to suggest if you have no idea what changes have been made that might have caused the issue.
