Do I need to put ceiling at te bottom of first floor.

Do I need to add ceiling at the bottom of the first floor or first floor will act as a ceiling for gorund floor.

Secondly I tried to put ceiling on top of first floor so that I can put roof on that but when I looked in 3D view the ceiling was not attached to the first floor walls even though I added ceiling at the roof level and my walls height are set to roof level. How can I add my ceiling at the level of my first floor walls which is a level of my roof.

When you say ceiling you need to specify is it a roof what you meant or false/suspended ceiling

The floor of the 2nd Level (first floor) can act as the ceiling of the 1st Level (Ground floor) ... you may use the tool Floor for this one
The last slab you place in your model is typically the roof ... you may use the Roof tool for that
A ceiling might as well refer to the suspended ceiling and that is different from the floor placed/modeled on the 2nd Level (first floor)

You can place both a slab/floor on the 2nd level + a suspecded ceiling on the 1st level (GF) if it is what you want! But just the floor/slab of the first floor suffic if thats what you are aiming for by ceiling for Ground floor

To attach the walls to the last slab/roof; select the wall(s) and use the attach top/bas tool in the ribbon (Modify tab) then select the roof/slab to attach to

PS: @Anonymous you seriously need to get a proper book on Revit. One of those which do not require any experience. Following your posts you have a very odd workflow! Who ever is teaching you that is sending you off in the wrong direction/tracks

As you know that I am making the house in revit for the first time. By odd workflow did you mean that the steps I am following are not right. I am just trying to follow tutorials on you tube. I did attach my file yesterday for you to have a look. I am attaching it again today. Which things are incorrct in my project.

I just followed the steps which are normally followed in every youtube tutorail. Please advise my any book you think is best to understand Revit. I will order it and correct my mistakes.

Please have a look at my model and tell me what is wrong.

I might have asked some very basic questions on forums because I am doing it for the very first time.

The overall workflow and sequence one should follow starting from how you set up the project file, prepare your templates... all the way to presenting the final project including phasing, collaboration, rendering, walkthroughs, sheets and everything. NOT just the workflow for modeling one item...Youtube videos might be OK if one wants to check out how a particular element or function works but not the BIM Thinking and plan ahead and what comes first or what should come next!

Besides if you really want to learn Revit; you shouldn't move from one tool to the other before you discover all the capabilities of that tool.

One Example: Floors...You shouldn't move to creating roofs and ceilings before you literally milked out everything which Floor tool does! And not just that but also what can one do with a floor once placed in the model. Its not just a tool one click and draws a rectangle and it’s all over!

Another example; Walls...This is an easy one yet the topic isn't; again when you start with walls you don't move on forward before you have discovered all that there is about walls or which relates to walls; different types, how to create/modify/amend them, add sweeps/reveals/stack them, about their parts, their constraints, splitting them attaching them and, and, and ...at least the basic features which are there!

From my experience in teaching; I have never came across someone learning Revit (or anything else) where in one single day asks 5 questions about 5 different things from 5 different topics all at once…that only tells me that this person is not giving each topic the time it deserves and not giving himself the time needed to absorb all that there is on one single topic before moving to the second

I looked at your file; I am not sure what to say! I actually rather not say anything at all...except what I've just recommended in my previous reply...You are working bits and pieces most of which do not really suit the purpose you placed them there for.

Ok you are learning and that’s good but really you are not on the right track...one might say practice makes perfect. I say no, it’s the right practice of the best practice which makes perfect...and if youtube and google or wikipedia were the ultimate source of knowledge...all those good authors out there would have died from poverty and hunger 🙂 think about it

@Anonymous, don't be sorry, dude! Hey, you're trying to learn and it's way more than many of my co-workers are doing - just as an example! In my office, nobody even knows about Autodesk Forums and keep me asking things... Things that I end up learning from all the fellow members like @RDAOU and many others.

What he's tryng to say - I think - is for you to take a steb back to see the whole picture, not the details. I strongly recommend you read about BIM, and how Revit think. The Knowledge Network has a lot of workflow material also, not "click here to do that" type of tutorials.

I also recommend you buy a book from an Authorized Autodesk Author. There's a few in english and probably in other languages too. They're way better than YouTube videos.

Why are you sorry?! You shouldn't be. You constantly ask to check your model was trying to avoid the answer...That was just my blunt honest opinion based on what I've noticed so far from the nature of questions you post and the implementation in the model and as you are still at the beginning I thought you might consider setting yourself on the right track...to a certain extents we are all students and learners after all...a fact that even the elite top notch experts cannot deny...and to learn one asks, inquires and seeks advice (so if you are sorry about that, DONT BE)

What counts is the intent and for that you deserve lots of credits 🙂 at least you are willing to receive and accept advice unlike many who seek it then deny it claiming that they knew it all

I am actually sorry for annoying everyone. I am rushing for everything because I know that I can always go back and change things according to my requirement. With two children at home I don't have much time to study so I post every question that is in my mind and work on my project at night when my children go to sleep. I try to do everything in my mind in a short span of time to complete my project in time.

Obviously everything is in my mind,(work sheets. rendering, flyover, client brief) but I wanted to complete my model first.

At the moment I was only focousing on the things I want for my project and not anything else. There are thousands of designs possible but I was just focusing on what I want rather than reading everthing about that particular function.

To be honest Autodesk forums is the easiest way to get an answer to the solution rather than looking into a 1000 page book. Secondly when I Do things incorrctly and then correct them by the help of autodesk solutions I will never repeat those mistakes again. But when I read a book I cannot memorise everything in it as compared to doing or resolving thing practically in Revit. It is wrong as a student. I should not rush for things and should read a complete book before starting my project.

I have asked many stupid question and I am extremly sorry for that. I will now try doing everything in a way it should be done in a professional way rather that posting so many questions on forums.

No, my dear @Anonymous... You got it all wrong. I'm not telling you "read a book and forget about us". I'm saying to check quickly in a book, tutorial or else to know how the tool works, and then come tu us asking "why I did what I did, and where do I go from here?". Got it? Because knowing Revit tools is good, but any well trained monkey can do it. We want you to understand how BIM works, how Revit thinks. That's when things become easy.

You don't need to read a thounsand pages to start a model. You go step by step, tool by tool. But to start right, you REALLY need to understand how levels and workplanes works, and how key elements like floors, ceilings and wall relate do them/with them. Then you slowly become fluent and begin with the advanced (really cool) stuff. It takes a while to happen, so do not rush it. Right, @RDAOU?

I don't have kids, but I know how it is to focus in obligations 12h/16h per day, and try to learn something new and rest in what's left of the day. Do not be sorry. Do not surrender. Do not give up.

I'm in the middle of a post graduation class right now, but I'll take a look at you model later.

Yes you are right. I knew little about everything but by posting questions I got things done quickly and I learnt about that function quickly. But that is not the right way. In a long run it is not correct.

What ever I will do now I will read all about how that functions and then start it.
