How have you been setting up 2nd floor plan view w/ level below?

I'd like to hear how some of you have been handling the view of your floor plans when the habitable space of a level does not encompass the entire area of a level. For example, I have attached a plan I am blocking out at the moment. The only portion that occupies the 2nd level is the bonus room above a garage. Normally in the AutoCAD days, I would only show the portion that exists on the 2nd level and then outline the exterior of the building below. However, that isnt' quite as easy a task in Revit unless you want to ditch the parametric capabilities and draw detail lines (which I don't want to do). It also would require hiding the roofs at times since someone might not understand that its being show as cut.

In the past I have done a mix of things using the linework tool to outline the walls below, turn on the underlay for the level below, individually hiding unwanted elementsm etc.

A plan region sounds like your best bet:-

You can then form it around either the roof or just the romm/area you're cutting through (I'd do it for the roof).

Although there is some merit to leaving it as a true cut plan because you provide a better indication of the level compared to it's surroundings.

Interesting question. I suppose the answer depends on what you want to show exactly.

Just hide the roofs and set the lower floor as the underlay?
