Hi again 🙂

What is the most suitable way to organize worksets...I don't mean how to create them but more like what to include in them. I am a bit confused on for example

Does it go by trade (doors, windows, walls, dry walls, floor finishes, windows...etc or what each coordinator and/or project engineer is working on?!

if for example walls should be on one workset and wall inserts or wal hosted elements on another or should those for example be on one workset?

can one have a template worksets which can be used on all projects or one has to recreate them with every project?

How do you guys do it?

Thanks

For typical medium sized project architectural model:
- Site
- Exterior
- Interior
- FFE
- Shared levels and grids
- Workset1

Consultants have their own worksets that we normally don't care because their models are linked.

For MEP it could be:

— grid and levels

— reference planes/points

— heating system 1

— heating system 2

— steam supply system 1

— AHU heat supply system 1

— supply ventilation systems

— exhaust ventilation systems

— smoke ventilation

— supply AHUs

— exhaust AHUs

— other equipment

— openings

— links *of architecture, metallworks, concreteworks*

— links *of electricity, water supply, sewerage etc*

Switch off the "visible in all views" option in the worksets dialog except "grid and levels" and "links *of architecture, metallworks, concreteworks*". Switch on the worksets only needed for a certaion view. This will save your newly created object from being shown in all project views!

Hi Marie,

We work much the same as the others who have posted with worksets being fairly generic. We have some 'special' worksets such as 'curtain wall' and 'Fire strategy' which are useful simply for our workflow and controlling what we see in views but I digress.

At present it's not possible to add worksets to your template file as they only become active when you start worksharing. However looking at the Revit Ideas forum it looks like this might currently be under consideration as a future development.

for now we make use of Dynamo to populate our worksets once the central file has been set up - this allows us to create a predefined list of worksets and add them to any project. In addition to this we have a script that exports worksets from another project which can then be imported in the same way. This is helpful where we have other consultants (who we expressly request use worksets) because if we have a workset of the same name in our project then we can control that same workset in the linked file. This allows us to control what info we see from the linked model.

I've attached the scripts we use - feel free to give them a go - you'll need an Excel file with your worksets in it obviously but hopefully you can figure that one out okay. It should run fine in Dynamo 1.0.

cheers

K.
