Does anybody know of a way to import view types from a template to an existing project. I don't mean view templates, nor do I mean views! I mean view types! If a view that uses the view type exists in the template it is easy to import it, however, if there is no such view the current import tools do not allow for such improt, as far as I understand.

Any trick anybody?

No Apps please! we've had enough of those.

thanks!

I know Dynamo can do that, because I did it to spread view types across multiple models. You select one initial view, and the script can create a list of view types. Other than that, I think it´s not possible with Revit´s built-in tools.

by "View Type" are you referring to when your making a new Floor Plan or Reflected Ceiling Plan and you have a Type dropdown? To my knowledge, unfortunately that is not available as something you can transfer from one project/template to another.

Thanks Alfredo. Can you direct me to the specific dynamo script?

Sorry, I don´t have it. It´s something I did when I was working for an architectural firm some three years ago. I probably used nodes from the Archi-lab package to do it. It started taking a default view, then making a duplicate of its type, then renaming the new type, and optionally a list of names to repeat that as many times as needed.

Thanks for your reply Alfredo. I hope Autodesk will allow import of their own templates from file to file. At the moment Revit requires too many third party apps to complete any job.

Revit does not require any. Many people have completed projects without 3rd party apps of any sort. Most of them aren't doing anything that Revit cannot do already without 3rd aprty intervention. They just make it more convenient.

For section and elevation, simply create section/elevation and change the section/elevation type. After that, copy the section and elevation from template and paste into existing project. The section/elevation type will copied over with the proper name. As for floorplan view type, only option I've see is dynamo. Check this website

https://forum.dynamobim.com/t/copying-view-types-and-templates-from-one-model-to-another/28438

Create a bunch of callouts, sections, elevations and assign each with a view type you want to transfer, then copy paste them from the template to the other project to bring the view types over. Delete them when done.
