Hello,

I have a strange problem. I exported an NWC from a RVT Project. All the elements look fine except for a few elements. One of them is a particular type of a family of Specialty Equipment Category. It is a Ladder family to a Underground Water Tank. Also some Steel I Section Framing Elements displaced in different location vertically than the Revit File.

When I append the exported NWC into Navisworks, the Family & Type name of the elements remain same for the problematic objects but the appearance of the element is different.

Take a look the snapshots below, I've kept an adjacent ladder for comparison.

So the question is: Does Revit not always export the same geometry to Navisworks exactly?

So, I thought why not export the problematic family elements separately as an NWC. Now I was surprised because the elements are exported properly.

See the snapshot below for an overlay two NWC files.

1. TestWireframe.nwc = NWC of the whole model with Specialty Equipment Revit Category elements isolated

2. Test.nwc = NWC Export from a Isolated 3D View of only the elements of the problematic ladder.

Somebody explain me why Revit behaves differently in these two different situations. Why does it export a wrong geometry while exporting the whole model and why does it export properly when those objects isolated?

Thanks for reading carefully and patiently. Hoping to see some good explanation.

Hi

Upto Certain extent I can resolve your issue.

I also faced a same problem, sometimes .nwc won't support from Revit.

Alternatively I prefer to export to 3D DWF, all the elements which Revit behaves would accept in Naivsworks.

Thanks

Thanks Madhu. I was waiting for so long for someone to reply 🙂

That is one way to go. But for some of the workflows related to my task, need the NWC Format. I am waiting for Autodesk Support to elevate this issue.

Hi @BalajiHTI,

I understand you are seeing different export to NWC results from Revit based on whether you have the specialty equipment isolated in the view.

In the 3D view, is there a section box applied to the veiw? Do you get consistent results if the section box is turned off or on?

Are you exporting using the Navisworks Add-in on the add-ins tab?

When exporting, are you exporting from the same view in Revit? The only difference is that the ladder is isolated?

Can you provide the file and/or family and we try recreating the issue.

Also. what is your Revit Version/Build number as well as Navisworks Version/Build number for troubleshooting.

I look forward to hearing back.

Hi Michael,

The section box was not applied while the NWC was exported. I just isolated Speciality Category Elements in VG Settings.

Yes I exported from Add-In Ribbon Tab. I don't remember if it is from the same 3D View. I will try to recreate the situation.

I will remove any sensitive information attached as metadata in the Family / Project and will share a link in the Personal Message option within Autodesk forums soon.

Revit Architecture 2015
Navisworks Manage 2015

I will share Build Numbers in the Personal Message as well.

Thanks!

Any update on this?

I'm experiencing the exact same issue. Revit element is of "Structural Framing" category, but it gets exported to Navisworks as Pipe category. Weird.

I'm exporting via File>Export to .NWC with settings as attached.

Thanks,

Luka
