You are simply loading or trying to load families after the command/tool was envoked. When you do this, the selected Family MUST suit/match the proper category corresponding with the running command.

Example: if you started the command Window; you won't be able to load a Cabinet or Lighting fixture while the command window is active.

What you need to do is:

EITHER load in the proper Family category which suits the running command

OR Exit the running command >> then go to the Ribbon >> Insert tab >> Load From Library Panel >> Load Family.

After you load what you need, re-envoke the command

In the Event Revit Content Libraries were not installed properly during Software D&I...go to Windows Control Panel and look for "Autodesk Revit Content Libraries 20XX" where XX stands for the Version you installed.

Double click to run

Use "Add / Remove Features"

Check the Content libraries you want to install (all the additional ones you need + any existing library which was previously installed)

In your Windows' Control Panel > Programs and Features, search for Autodesk Revit-Content for your version of Revit, and install the libraries and templates.

I have tried loading different items under what should be the correct family. I have also opened the family from the drop down at the top and loaded into the model only to not be able to find it in any drop down component or family menu anywhere. When I try and load it again it says it is already loaded. the biggest thing I need immediately is curtain wall panels and doors. they aren't working and I need to get my project done. It seems like the main families didn't even load on the initial loading of the program.

after more reading is it a window 10 issue? I would like to talk to a person from Autodesk but can't get to that. I am just really frustrated.

Bridgette

But, have you done the installation of the content as suggested in the previous posts?

What do you mean by "any drop down component or family menu anywhere"? What happens if you click on the Door tool icon?

I think you are not following the instructions/suggestions given above. I get the same error when I try to load rebars. All it takes is to exit/escpx2 and just load the families into the project via insert tab or drag and drop into the project browser. Then start place element/family again.

i am also using Windows 10 and no issuEs at all so I can tell you it is not Windows. If your families are installed/downloaded then u should be able to place them if you do it properly.
