We had a Font printing issue, where on screen the text looks good but when you print to PDF the text is running into other text.
This solution fixed our font printing issues, after changing all monitors to 100%.

The odd thing we came across was the users laptop was connected to two monitors and kept the laptop monitor off, and that monitor that was off was set to 125% and caused the font printing problem.

So check all your monitors even if they are not active.

After the restart it was solved!
Thanks for posting the solution.

This is a very easy fix and its actually a windows setting:

Windows 7

1. Right click on desktop:

                Select Personalize

2. Select Display - Lower Left

3. Select Smaller – 100%

It will require a Reboot of the machine.

Windows 10

1. Right click on desktop:

                Select Display Settings

2. Adjust the slider bar at Change the size of text, apps and other items to 100%

3. Hit Apply

This will resolve all the text issues in Revit 2017

That may fix the text size on the program menu or tool palettes, but certainly not the actual text size problem in Revit.

Actually it does.

We compared two machines side by side that had the same Revit project open. The one with the correct settings, had no text issues and the one that did not have the settings, the text was scrambled, misaligned, out of size etc.

We set the setting on the machine where the text was wrong, rebooted...started the project and now all the text in the project was now fixed and the projects matched identical.

But I didn't stop there, I did it on multiple project side by side and in the same fashion and it fixed everyone of them.

We have 180 Revit users and it's now the protocol to set the text at 100%, and it fixed every problem we had in 2017.

Okay we are talking about separate issues.

I thought you were referring to the infamous text size slightly largee when
one upgraded from 2016 to 2017. I had that problem and my font size under
Windows display settings was always 100%.

Glad it fixed your organization problem, whatever that might be.
--

-Toan

Ghines,

The text issue in 2017 isn't a global issue affecting all users and between all those affected it is not always the same issues and not always the same behavior

Setting scaling to 100% may solve some issues but it does not apply to all cases pertaining to text behavior experienced by some users
1. There were some glitches which were resolved by the issued Service Packs (and probably there are some which the SPs did not address yet)
2. There are users (threads posted on this forum) who has scaling set to 100% and still having same issue and There are users like myself who are not experiencing any issues at all with Scaling set to 150% with SP1 & no SP2

It certainly has something to do with graphics and hardware settings and it for sure has something to do with how the new Revit handles text...We had 2017 installed on two separate machines with 4k display. Both had identical hardware except for the screen manufacturer and graphics cards (same specs thou); one worked perfectly ok the second had text issues similar to what some described on this forum...

So please don't scan forum for 2017 + text and post on all claiming that a solution has been found ... It is not really helpful... If you want to help, read the threads carefully and try to understand and treat each case following to the discussion on those threads NOT the title

Went through a roller coaster with this original post. I thought, "Yay!" Tried it on our culprit computer. It didn't work for us - the culprit computer was already set to 100% and rebooted. Then I figured out why...

Although I believe the true fix is up to Autodesk, this work-around worked for us wonderfully, with a caveat: for #3, instead of it saying "Select Smaller – 100%," perhaps it should say, "All computers should be set to the same size."

The steps originally didn't work for us because the "culprit" computer was already at 100% and the "innocent" computer was at 125%. Since the text looked fine on the "innocent" computer, we bumped up the "culprit" computer to 125%. Especially since we weren't about to edit 198 sheets of text and in our office, our screens are not all the same type, size and resolution. Some screens, "Smaller - 100%" is really too small for some screens.

All in all, kudos to you, Ghines! Thanks for posting!

Following the instruction from Ghines will only force you to have to restart your computer.

Not true. Prior to 2017.2 and other releases, we found we had text height and other issues. Once we reset windows text settings, it resolved that the issue...did it require a reboot? Yes...however it did fix our issues.

Now In all fairness, there were still some glitches we saw and yes, those were resolved through regular autodesk updates.

Disclaimer

The information contained in this communication from the sender is confidential.

Thank you for making my point. As you said, PRIOR to 2017.2. Once 2017.2 is installed, the issue is resolved. I pushed this to 22 machines yesterday, we tested all machines on about 30+ different projects, and all problems were resolved and we never touched ANY windows settings.

the windows graphics engine and the revit rendering engine are completely separate, revit does not rely on any windows rendering when creating its graphics, therefore changing windows settings could not conceivably impact how revit interacts with text within a model.

I fully expect you to spout your windows nonsense further though, so by all means, be my guest.

Are you seeing the Revit window minimize, maximize buttons and view cube disappear? How did the 2017.2 install solve your text wrapping problem? You just installed the 2017.2 update restarted Revit and the wrapped text was fixed? We installed 2017.2 restarted Revit 2017 and the text wraps that were not in 2016 on the same project are still there after this update. Any suggestions. Autodesk said wait until 2018.

Yes, after installing Revit2017.2 and rebooting the machines and then restarting revit, all text wrapping issues were resolved on our projects. As far as the view-cube disappearing, we did not experience that issue. I would recommend a full revit removal and re-installation in that case. Time consuming yes, so try it on one machine first 😉

Just hooked up dual monitor in 2019.1 and the text is doing this again. Has anybody else been seeing this? Talk about a let down......

So I believe I found the solution to this that I haven't found in any of the Autodesk forums.

Right click on your Revit icon and go to properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and select the "Change high DPI settings" button and make sure the High DPI scaling override box is checked and set to application and not system. I believe this override will offset your high DPI monitor scaling settings and fix your print to PDF issues.
