RVT 2016- Purge Deletes views on sheets

Whenever we purge our project, it deletes section and elevation views.

It seems impossible, though I can't do anything to fix it.

Help please!

In my 5 years as a BIM Manager and ACI, I can tell you honestly, you cannot say its not possible. Autodesk tends to f*up pretty quickly.

I don't allow 3rd party add-ins in this office. I can send you the file. You'll see all is above board and according to standards and best practice.

I'm also not the only one.. Here is a post of someone else with the same issue:

So can someone who does not judge my credibility reply so we can get some real answers here.

Thank you for your post. In this case it looks like you are seeing some odd behavior with purging deleted views on sheets within the Revit software. In this case, I would start to suspect some mild form of corruption within the model mentioned. To check and compare, I would advise opening the model with the check box for Audit, then save as a new central. Once saved as a new central please check overall functionality. Does this still exhibit the ill behavior? If so, please attach a copy on your reply for review. Please keep us posted in the community so we can best help. Revit 2016 purges elevations and sections unwillingly like you described. Revit 2017 does not. Hopefully that gives the development team a clue.

I had the same problem and was referred to this thread. This was happening to me while setting up a template file in 2016. I will upgrade to 2017 soon but in the meantime I suspected the sections being purged out had something to do with the fact that I'd created 4 new section types and renamed Revit's Original "building Section" type. I've done some experiments. I've isolated the problem to be:

When you draw a section line using a specific type (e.g. Section Type 1) and then change the view type of the section (e.g. from Section Type 1 to Section Type 2) for some reason when purging the section is still "filed" under its original section Type (i.e. Section Type 1 in this example) so when you hit purge and Section Type 1 is selected - the section Type 2's also get purged...

I think for me a solution is to make sure that you have a section drawn of each view type that exists in the model - even if its a tiny one hidden somewhere. This will ensure that no Section Types get listed in Purge All window and therefore don't get purged out....

Unless of course you can upgrade your project to 2017, but if not at least this is a workaround

Why don't you uncheck the section views while purging? I don't find it worth upgrading the project for such a minor issue.

I wouldn't want to risk the view types even being available in the purge list. A new person on the project will assume they can be purged because its there on the list and for years we have trusted that list. But it is a HUGE problem if views on sheets that have been issued get purged out by mistake.

I am a project which is in version 2016, and because of this problem I cannot use the purge function of Etransmit, because the sections views disappear systematically. My client found out!
