If you set the family to work-plane based = yes, now you can change the host by: selecting the family > Edit work plane > select another level or named reference plane from the list.

It should work also as you were expecting, though. Can you can post the family?

Recently I encountered a function issue with a generic family I created. When placing it in the model, I have no control over what level it gets placed on even though i've selected what level i want it to be on. So once it's placed, it says it's on a given level but hosted by a completely different level. Changing the level under the Contraints section of the properties does nothing. I can pick a new host but I've never had to do that in previous versions.

I just did the same exact thing in 2015 and it functions as expected. Change the level and the family moves up or down to that level.

Am i missing something?

e

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you did not set the family as "work-plane based".

Alfredo,

I don't recall ever having to check that box in past versions but it appears that I did not have it checked in this family. I will let you know how it shakes out.

Thanks!

So I changed the family to work plane and that works, however, once you do that, you're locked into whatever work plane you started with. In 2015, i have a generic model i created, placed it on my level one, so it's associate with level one. I then can change the Level under the constraints property and change it from level one to say, t.o. masonry. the family then moves up to the t.o. masonry level. That behavior is how it has worked in every version I've used since 2008. Has something changed in the family template?
