i was wondering if it's possible to create curved glass railing to be used on stairs something like the picture attached below,

You can use the top rail, with a profile, following the curved path of a landing or floor.

Check following image:

This was modeled and rendered in Revit, without any plugin. The method is to create "Curtain Panel Pattern Based" family, then create a mass surface then assign the pattern to be the created family.

Hello Ronel,

Thank you for posting your stair family, I am facing some serious issue with spiral stair on 2018 and I hope you could tell me what I am missing.

When ever I use a file like your (upgraded to 2018) or create a type myself, the rail react in a odd way while creating the railing.

Please let me know if you see where I miss something,

nothing wrong onmyside....could be on your settings. mind to post your resaved rvt file for further checking..

Thank you so much for your answer,

I have attached a sample of the two stairs, Every parameter seam to match, its seam like the sweep type is just wrong each time I place a new railing.

Only difference I noticed is the arrow on the sketch path "toggle sketch orientation", does seam to be present on the original, when I open your file

Hello Ronel,

I have tested the same features in Revit 2017.2 and I couldn't find the same problem, I am now pretty sure that Revit 2018.2 has some serious issues with the railing when it come to spiral staircase.

It would be nice to have a insight of how the geometry (Sweep) has been managed in this release, if there is any new parameter we could pull to get that sweep from top working again in railings.

Hello Everyone,

Today's update for Revit 2018.3 didn't solve any of those issues,

the spiral stair railing keep having problems.

straight stair has normal railing while curve stair have strange behavior on revit 2018

I will have to end up having in place component, if anyone has an other idea, please let me know,

Use a top rail with a custom thin and tall profile. Still, it does not guarantee to work for every condition. Chances are it can be twisted weirdly and when it happens just use an in place model with a sweep blend.

Thank you for your answer, the top profile seems to have the exact same behavior on my side, unfortunately.

I'll let you know if I find anything in the future.

Background:

tested with 18.2 and 18.3 with the same issue

no problem with the 17.2

Actually we made our stair with the 17.2 version and imported in our 18.3 model ;), worked fine but definitely not stable and not very satisfy by the solution.

Same here, so I've decided to duplicate the default Part M (disabled ) staircase, remove all the Risers and Treads to remain with only the right and left support then i made them the glass balustrade. So i basically have 2 staircases on top of each other - looks way better than the default railing that tapers all over the place.
