Create a Level Marker for a plan that was created by duplicating

If you create a new plan view by right clicking and choosing "Duplicate with detailing" it makes a new view without a unique level attached to it. Can you somehow create a level for that new plan after the fact?

If a plan view is duplicated, the new view it is at the same level as the original. Why would you need a new level for the new view?

Alfredo is right, a PLAN VIEW cannot be "orphan", it exists because it is attached to a level.

As a proof of concept, you cannot change the level it is attached to after the creation of the view.

When you duplicate a view, it is created with exactly the same settings as the original view, including the attached level.

If your goal is to reproduce the appearance of a plan view at different levels, you will have to use the view templates!

Tell us what you want to achieve and I am sure Alfredo or me will give you the most compliant workflow!

The way this happened was with a remodel. Initially an addition was made to an existing building at the same level as one floor. Later in the design, the client wanted a step down between the levels. Since the existing building, and the initial proposed work were on the same level (but in different phases), it made sense to just duplicate the existing view, naming one Level-1 Existing, and Level-1 New. Then when the step down happened I needed a new level to attach things to. It would have been nice to attach a level to Level-1 New, and then just move the level down to create the step. I was still able to accomplish it by creating a new level at the desired elevation and re-attaching everything to it, but it was somewhat time consuming.

Just create a new Level and a new associated floor plan view. Create a View Template from the old floor plan if you haven't done it already. Assign the template to the new floor plan. Copy and paste-align-to-view or paste-align-to-same-place all necessary annotation from the old floor plan to the new one.

If you set View Range by Template, make sure Top is NOT Level above, but an Offset value from Associated Level.

I would still keep the same level for both parts. For a difference of just one step, I think this can be handled with offset values.
