I am using Revit LT 2017 so I do not have an in place void tool. I need to create the chamfer in the family. When I have tried a void sweep it will not allow a void in the host wall of the opening.

Any ideas to help me out?

Thanks.

Hi, I've cut the holes through the wall using a void extrusion which worked for the main void. Then I tried to do the chamfer as a void sweep. I get this error as soon as the two voids touch / overlap. I also tried doing it as two void sweeps and I get the same error. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

Just looking at the geometry you might be getting the error because the void is "self intersecting" at the point. I am not sure without seeing the family for myself, but tight corners like that sometimes cause the self intersecting situation.

Could you maybe make the chamfer shape as a void blend instead of a sweep? If there is a self intersecting problem with the sweep the blend would avoid that issue.

Thanks Jeff,

I tried as you suggested. The void blend works for the chamfer until you try and join / align the void blend and void extrusion to make the void complete through the wall.

As soon as they touch, I get the message shown below. When separated both voids form correctly.

Thanks, Richard.

Thanks. I'm not sure how to do this. I only have the option to do a single swept blend with 2 profiles, not three, unless I misunderstood.

However, you got me thinking. I tried a swept blend for the chamfer and a sweep for the main opening and this combination did work without an issue.

Thanks for your help.

You are correct. I was thinking multiple profiles along the sweep path similar to what you could do with a conceptual mass but it wasn't the case. Glad you figured it out.
