Autodesk Seek Website

Does anyone know what is going on with the Autodesk Seek website? It looks like it is going to some type of cloud based system. I don't understand why Autodesk would not announce this change.

I see that the Seek site was replaced with BIMObject site, but what happened to all the generic content? I loved that I coiuld access additional content that was light-weight and not manufacturer specific but that is not apparently avialble in BIMObject. Also, the old sample files were great too, are those available elsewhere? (i.e. railing samples, stair samples, etc)

The other generic content was supposed to be ported over to BIM Object, but it did not happen. Perhaps look in a few weeks and see if it shows up. I am not sure on the status of the transfer, but that content was SUPPOSED to be posted.

I am trying to teach fro a textbook that has us using Autodesk Seek to find content. I just looked today and we still can't find the content we are looking for. Any idea when they will be bringing it in?

As a former teacher, I can feel your pain. Do you have any old student projects? Can you get the information you need from them, and save it to a server or flash drive?

I don't know which text you are using, but I know from my past experience with different Autodesk Authorized Training Materials, the exercises in the later chapters will have project files that will have the content you need, as they build upon themselves. You could take a project from the end of the book and pull out the Revit Families you need to create your own library.

Not the easiest workflow, but an option.

I have the same problem - wanting some of the generic content from the Seek site. I was looking for the generic angled shower enclosure to put in a model of my house - a side project from my real job. I did my best on the BIMObject site, but no love there.

Any ideas?

I managed to get someone from BIMobject to comment on some of the concerns raised by other community members regarding the transfer and there is quite a discussion regarding the generic content/families.

Sorry all,

Just jumping on the the thread here in regards to locating real 3D content. Specifically I'm looking for actual ½ Nuts & Bolt drawing files in *.dwg, *.stl. *.stp or and other 3D format, that actually show the threads etc., etc., and are just not a "Call-out" and can be used in or as BIM content.

I do understand BIM Object has indeed taken over the "Autodesk Seek Website". I was with another vender/company (Siemens) and we had content & promoted the use of the site since we were BIM users. The new company I'm working for (Merck) is also moving towards BIM for there facility management so again, I'm in need of CAD libraries & 3D content. I'm asking the users on this site or forum in order to stay away from the garbage that's out there.

That thread detail is hard to make/find in native Revit format. Best to use imported content for that but be aware of file bloat if you use a lot of it.

I make mine without threads.

Yes, thanks for the suggestion but that doesn't help my customer, (I already provided a drawing with the call-out).

I'm currently going though the BIM object web site & trying to stay away from Grab-CAD if I can.

Again, to all the other users out there any help or suggestion's would be appreciated.

That's yet to be determined. If that's a big project with a lot of small details such as bolt threads, it might not perform very well. (Revit best practices, ya know.)
