topic Model Element on View Workset in Revit Architecture Forum

Ok

This is a new one for me. I received a model that has all disciplines organized by workset. We were checking the accuracy those when we noticed a few items that never turned off in #D even though we hid all worksets. After reviewing them we saw these MODEL elements are on a View workset. The are all on a Detail view workset. the view does exist but does not contain any model elements.

Looks like I can move these items to the proper model workset, but since this is supposed to be impossible I am concerned about model corruption etc.

I have run an audit on the model and got nothing back so it appears to be a valid central file. There are a number of warnings in the file (455) but only a few that I see as serious. The majority are disconnected systems, pressure and K warnings and the off axis warning from the site.

Anyone else seen this happen? Results or consequences?

Worksets only affect elements' visibility and permissions, not geometry nor constraints. So, I don't think moving them to a legit workset would cause any problems. Save a backup for a peace of mind.

So opening the file this morning didn't work. I got the Not a valid Revit file when I tried to open it.

I will go back to the original and see if moving the items after the initial detach-open will fix it for future.

@chubbard Hi

thsts was quite a common issue (user error) in earlier Revit versions (pre 2015) an example is when the user selects an element and enters edit mode on a view workset then Instead of using ‘Finish or Cancel Edit Mode’ they click Undo instead to exit edit mode...that puts/locks them to the wrong workset where they continue to add stuff to the view workset instead the user created...this behavior was supposedly improved in 2015 onward. (Or the similar issue of pbp and sp being deleted or tossed to a view workset)

you our should be able to easily move them to the desired user workset either through properties palette or via isolate then cut to clip and paste aligned to same place (make sure to set the desired workset as active)

if anything would get the model file to bcm corrupted it's not moving model elements from view to user created workset

None of the elements are sketch elements. Most are non-hosted component families. A few are hosted and 4 are actually wall sweeps.

We are trying to recover the original file now and will either change or delete the offending items

AFAIK this was a 2015 file from the beginning. We received it in 2015.

We were able to open the original file and move the items to a model workset. It took two tries. first time Revit locked up and then crashed.

Second time we deleted the view and then moved the items. That seems to work and the file is now open and seems to be running normally.

Might be that view was corrupted and with the incorrect items it was unable to reconcile. Not sure. As I stated this is the first time I have seen model elements on View worksets.

It's a very common mistake and have seen it (still do) on older revit models. And the elements are not limited to hosted elements, they be walls, floors, furniture as well as plan regions, detail groups, or filled regions...behavior was glitched
