Why what's wrong with the users name! It just expresses an opinion and in thr colloquial sense means X is BAD...It is not offensive; well unless (grammatically speaking) one makes out of the adjective a verb, adds an s then follows by an object but that's far fetched and we can't assume that was his intention! His actions might be questionable but not the interpretation of the name I guess

on the other hand I do find it offensive, unprofessional and insulting to metaphorically speak of a human as a dog that barks and another that bites...probably in some cases more to the dog than to the human but still

I probably should screenshot this one too 🙂 for the records

Hi

I'm having problems with "Snaps" in Revit 2016. I have a curtain wall end that I tried to move close to a wall but without touching and the end of the curtain wall snaps to the wall, fine. When I go into "Snaps" and uncheck all but "Angular dimension snap increments" because i want to keep the curtain wall aligned with another (normal) wall, the end of the curtain wall still snaps to the end of the wall. It's only when i check "Snaps Off" that the snaps stop doing their thing. I also tried unchecking Snaps one by one, but apparently they stay on unless i check "Snaps Off". And also when "Snaps Off" are checked it still snaps but at a shorter distance, I can then move it fairly close and change the angel so it's off by as little as 0.05 degrees but when I use dimensions to set the angel and change it back to 180 the curtain wall snaps back into the wall. Is this just how it is in Revit or have i missed something somewhere?

There are a few things you can do depending on the situation. Zooming in effects the snap 'distance' allowing you to get closer to the object without snapping.

During dragging you can press to the TAB key to switch between different/no snap objects. You can look at the statusbar what is currently selected

If it is related to walls you also can right click on the blue dot at the end of the active wall. This opens a menu and gives you the possibility to (dis)allow join.

Another thing you need to know is that Revit is not of infinite precision.

It actually makes sense, nothing in the building industry is less than a milimeter precise, except for profiles for example.

And it limits the need for outrageously long point coordinates (memorywise). And calculations.

That said, I think part of your problem might come from the "automatically embed" type property of your curtain wall that would force your wall to conform to a potential host.

Try changing that,

And tell me if it works!

This isn't a "solution" but may be helpful under some circumstances...

Put a reference plane where you want the end of your curtain wall to be and then align the end to that reference plane.

i'm the one who started the topic but i cannot login to my account, getting a msg about there's a problem accessing my account.

best solution was by EnlInt, disallowing join solved the problem and it can now be positioned freely and as wanted. i don't know why it chose RDAOU's answer as best answer, but when i couldn't access my account i went to my email and saw i had an email from when EnlInt replied, tried pressing reply in the email but still counldn't access my account then i pressed best anwser and it automatically chose RDAOU's answer.

@FGPerraudin: i'm aware of what your saying but when i check a box where it says "Snaps off" and it doesn't turn snaps off that just doesn't make any sense. and i have to say that i have seen revit automatically change dimensions (when not locked) to also having a value containing a fraction of a millimeter. f.ex. it would display 3500mm but when selecting the wall and looking at the blue number that appears it would display 3500.7 and on another it would be 2799.3mm and every time i changed the value to 3500mm or 2800mm it would display that value but when clicking the wall it would display 2799.3 and 3500.7 but it stopped when i locked dimensions. but i agree it makes perfectly sense to not have infinite precision or go below less than 1mm in something like Revit.

about my nick... the forum chose my nick base on my email. i didn't have my pwd for my email with me so made a new one since it's needed here and chose autodesksucks@ the extra added bits was done by the site itself. why would i choose such an email, well i haven't used any autodesk apps for 10 years and i have literally never had any problems or weird dysfunctional and bugged features in any of the CAD apps that i have used, mostly SolidWorks and CATIA, but also Blender and a few other not so well know apps. now 10 years later i've been using autodesk software again for a couple of month and it's nothing to bugs, problems and weird stuff happening (just like with Inventor ten years ago), in fact it's so bad it spoiling the atmos in the office. but no worries in time all offices will be cleansed from autodesk rubbishware.

EDIT: sorry what i meant to say was.. when i uncheck snaps and they don't turn off that doesn't make any sense.
