Hello,

I am having an issue with a linked revit model that i bring into my project. It only appears in 3D & some elevations, but does not appear in any floor plans. I have played around with my view range and depth clipping. In what i researched, it may also have something to do with my visibility graphics--> Revit Links (display settings; Host View) but as i open these host views i can't seem to edit or change to custom setting. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks

This just happened to me this morning. I was asked to take a look at a view which was associated with a different level, so the link did not show. Entirely unexpected place to look for the problem.

So firstly, look at your view properties, make sure that it is associated with the right level!

The screenshots that you sent -

Screenshot #1 - click on the + sign next to the linked file. When it expands, look at the settings of the file that you see. Surprisingly, that has also been known to affect display of the model.

Screenshot #2 - you were in the right place where you were changing out of Host View. ALL of the button below will allow you to switch display settings from Host to Linked View settings. Experiment with them.

Thanks for your reply!

I have reviewed my view properties, and they appear to be associated with the right level. Revit Link 3.jpg should show the +, i'm not really sure what the 4 (<Not Shared>) row is for. When I open to Custom, ALL the dropped downs do not seem to be available and my options are limited. When i researched this, it showed example of what might appear, and i don't have them. Do you think its the way my Linked model was created? (Adaptive component families made from inventor models)

It is getting interesting. Does your link model have the same Levels as the master file? Does it have floor plan views, or RCPs, or elevation views created? If the link file is simply a 3D model for coordination then use by Host View. Make sure the category of the adaptive component (Generic model?) is made visible from VG of the View you want to show it.

I spent all day trying to figure this one out, and most of the comments in the forums didn't solve my particular problem. It's probably because I'm a novice, and am still learning the basic Revit functionality. I'm sure that others in this forum already have this knowledge, but here's what I figured out, for those people like me who may still be having an issue:

I first started out a new project file with a default "Electrical" template file that ships with 2018. This file already includes Levels and Views for 2 floors. When I linked in the Architectural model, the default plan views for Power and Lighting don't show any of the building components, except for the grids. Everything would, however, show up correctly in the elevation views.

Here's why: The Levels and associated Plan Views that were pre-defined in the template file didn't match the actual elevations of the levels of the Architectural model. So I had to delete the 2 pre-defined levels (which automatically gets rid of the associated plan views). Then I linked in the Architectural model and performed a "copy/monitor" on the Grid lines and Levels. Then I had to create new plan views. Everything automatically showed up correctly after creating these new plan views that were associated with the correct architectural Levels.

I will also add that before I figured this out completely I was able to do a workaround by modifying the V/G overrides for the linked Revit file, so that the view was "By Linked View", then selected a view from the linked file that was most appropriate for what I needed to show.

Hope this helps somebody...

John

Hello There,

I have a huge master file and I am trying to link Revit Model into it. The model to be linked, has floor plans and elevations. When Link the model into the master Revit file, it does not show in the site plan so I can place it correctly where I want. It shows in the 3D, however when I go the 3D to see where it is relative to other buildings, I can't locate it and it looks like it is very far from the other buildings and I can not even find where it is if I hover too much. I can not find it in the site plan as well. Are you able to help me with that?

Thanks in advance.

Possibly the link is too far from your model and is breaking the 20 Mile Rule?

Type VG.

Under RVT LINKS sure the link is checked (if you see a + next to the linked file then expand it - make sure all the files yiu now see have a check mark).

However - it does sound that the link is way too far from the origin. Type in ZE (Zoom Extents), window select over the ENTIRE drawing window. You may see a little pin point which is where the link is - click and drag it close to the center of the screen. ZE again.

Repeat this process till you have dragged to the link close enough to be able to see it well enough to place it the way you want it.

Alternatively - remove the link. Relink the file, experiment with the placement options that you see at the bottom of the dialog box.
