That would work, of course, but it's a last resort. Once I do that then any future changes to that unit type would have to be made and coordinated for every instance. It also means that visibility graphics overrides in the site model that were set for the linked unit would have to be repeated for every instance of the unit. It may be the only option, but I was hoping to avoid it.

I do townhome projects where we have multiple identical units. I am modeling the repeated units only once and then linking them in the site file. Is it possible to create a window schedule in the site file that assigns a unique window number for each instance? I can select the linked window, but the "Mark" is assigned in the unit file, so if I have 3 repeated units I get 3 occurrences of each window with the same mark and no way to sort them.

Ideally, I would like to be able to assign a unit number to each of the linked files and have the schedule sort the windows by unit.

If you identify the windows with any available field such as Comments then you can create a schedule and filter by that field, to count the by unit.

I may be missing something basic, but once the repeated unit is linked and copied in the site file, if I select an individual window I can't edit any of the fields. I can do it in the linked file, but then that information just ends up duplicated in the site file.

How about if you take the unit and make copies of it? All Revit needs is different file names. Then in each unit the windows could be distinguished by a comment.

I think I may have figured it out. If I add a field to the schedule for the "RVT Link: Name" then I can name each linked instance with the unit number and sort the schedule that way.

When you link the unit file in, Revit names each instance as 1, 2, 3, etc.
Just rename them, e.g. to the Unit 101, Unit 102, etc. then you can use
the information in the schedule for filtering and sorting/grouping.
