REVIT CAN'T DRAW LINES LESS THAN 0.09 mm WIDTH

Hi all¡¡ I am testing the line width that Revit prints because in the program interface my drawings looks cool (with thin lines disabled and all the line style,lines width and so on well defined) but when I print it loose quality...I have compare the lines of Autocad and printing the same line width with Revit and I have detected that in Revit all the lines that are less than 0.09mm are printed with the same thickness, all are printed with 0.09mm....Has anyone check this error?? I have chek it using Illustrator, that shows the width of the line that is in the pdf.

Check your Model Line Weights table vs the scale of the view you are working in. If the scale doesn't exist then the line weights won't work correctly when printed.

We are printing at .06mm just fine, could go down to .025mm but those lines get lost in repro.

Thanx for the reply. I have checked everything and it I don´t find any mistakes...also I have done a check with annotations lines that the width doesn´t depend on the scale of the view and happens the same...have u ever tried to check the thickness of the lines in Revit? I can´t understand why. It is not a huge problem, but you know, just checking how this program works.

Can you post a screenshot of the view you are working with that includes the scale in the lower left corner.....and a shot of your line weights table?

We did the same thing years ago with Release 7 and all of our Autocad lineweights work great in Revit.

I have repeat the process with model lines in a view with a 1/200 scale view. I upload images of the process in Revit and the view of thickness in Illustrator. The lines under 0.09mm continue having the same thickness.

Are you printing vector or raster? Remember, even with vector selection made, Revit will still print with raster if there is any shading in the drawing. Then what can happen is that your PDF print settings establish a downsampling of images (which any raster print is), the default of which, for color, is 150-dpi. So acrobat has to make the thinnest line 1/150th of an inch.

The above is totally a guess.

Okay....so you're looking at just the extra fine pen widths that you can barely distinguish when printed?

Considering the primary pen widths are 0.13, 0.18, 0.25, 0.30, 0.35, 0.50, 0.70, 1.0, 1.4 and 2.0...judging the lineweights below the normal x-tra fine pen of .13 seems pointless.

What are you trying to accomplish? While most use .06 for pen #1 which sets the model patterns, there really isn't a need to go smaller as they get lost in reproductions.

I am just triying to know if I am doing something wrong with Revit. If I set the pen #1 in 0.06 I gonna print in 0.09 as I have explained before...I don´t know why this happens in this program, is not a big issue, of course Revit is an amazing program but this is a problem that I have seen many time before and I have never find the correct place to talk about it until i found this forum.

Try creating them using the lineweights I mentioned above, as those are the standard technical pen sizes. Use just black pens and label accordingly and I'd be interested in what the size differences are.

Although I would use a 1:50 or 1:100 scale since those are usually the norm for regular plans. 1:200 is close to 1/16" scale and we usually scale our pens in half for everything, else it would be a blob of ink.

I'd be interested in what they actually scale to...just have to remember about the bleed effect may be happening as well.

Hi¡¡ No i haven´t, I think that there is not solution until Autodesk fix
the software. In the progamm you can change the lineweight as i have
mentioned above but the truth is that lines are allways thicker than 0.09
mm and is not only a problem about those lines. I think that this program
should improve the graphic part. ArchiCad I think that has much more
restrictions and I think that is much more limited than Revit but drawings
looks much better.

I tried via "Revit Ideas", but I doubt it is a good way to solve it.

Are you talking about printing to paper?

A 300dpi printer can only get down to 0.082mm. Maybe that's the limitation you're hitting?

Where did you get that information?

According to my math, each dot should be 0.00333 inches, 0.0762 mm.
