List of Student Issues

Hi again

We are having some problems again and I have tried gathering all the issues my students have.

1, We are experimenting with gbxml exports and find the analytical part really good. But we do not have always good results and geoemtry is exploded.
Is there anything we can do wrong?

2, I have been told it is very important for my students to be on latest update so is there a way to get notified with updates?

3, Can we get BIM 360 Team licenses for my students?

3: One of my students have warning about 30 mile rule in Revit, what can he do to get it away?

1. Not sure, don't use em.

2. The Autodesk Desktop App should notify you of new updates.

3. Keep the model and any linked elements at 0,0 (origin).

1. Please see HERE for information on Exporting to gbXML Before exporting do the following:

Change settings in the Energy Settings dialog as desired.
To update the energy analytical model to reflect the changed settings, delete and recreate it.

2.See HERE for software updates and fixes collected in a service pack.

Sign in to the Autodesk desktop app - a desktop component that is installed with Microsoft Windows ^®-based Autodesk products (2017 and later). It delivers product updates, new releases, and security patches to subscribers.

3. For licensing questions please write to the installation and licensing forum. The specialists will guide you for related information.

4.The prompt regarding the 30 mile rule appears when the Project Base Point is moved/dragged more than 10 miles away from the Origin (outside the 30 miles dia. circle). Sometimes Revit will issue this prompt but still give you the option to continue linking/importing.

In the drawing area, select the linked model instance, right-click, and click one of the following options:

Reposition to Project Base Point: Positions the RVT link using the model's Project Base Point as the insertion point, and aligns it to the Project Base Point in the host model.
Reposition to Internal Origin: Positions the RVT link using the model's world origin as the insertion point, and aligns it to the internal origin in the host model.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for taking your time to post this on the forum,

1) I would make a few recommendations for you gbXML export,

Normal workflow would be to have a analysis copy of the project and a main one more detailed for the project works. I suspect you might have the building too detailed after how it is built and not "just" simple shapes for analytical purposes.

And to be specific you might want to make sure your overlapping layers are correct, not creating air gaps or for example having the floors and roof on the wall centerlines - which by experience can create this situation.

2) Make sure your students have access to our Autodesk Desktop App, it will list all available updates and notify you whenever there's new updates available.

About Autodesk desktop app

If they don't have access to it you might want to make sure your IT department has allowed it access through your schools network security.

3) I would suggest you take a look at this article, it will be for Collaboration for Revit, but will also include Team, plus I'm sure your students would love C4R.

4) I would agree with Viveka.

The 30 mile rule is relating to Revit Internal Base Point (0,0,0) and moving the Project Base point beyond it will populate the warning.
