I see that you are visiting as a new member!

I tried linking your file into Revit, the file size is huge, yes is a single layer and looks like you have to optimize it in CAD - use a XCLIP and purge and clean the file.

After linking, you can go to the massing and site tab in Revit - click on toposurface - select create from import - select import instance and you get the following prompt from which you can select/ deselect layers, but still the file size is huge to perform this function.

Please mark this response as "Accept as Solution" if it answers your question. Kudos gladly accepted.

Hi all I am working on a uni project and have chosen a site in Istanbul.

I am able to attain topographic information from cadmapper, however cannot transform this into "land" in revit since it acts as a single layer, not traditional topography. This restricts the ability to use all of the land features of revit. A copy of the cadmapper file is attached.

The blogspot link had a great file for spot elevations of the same area however these are in text. Is there any way to convert this to a topography in revit? What is the best means of extracting text and converting to an eventual layer?

This does not work in autocad and the resulting land has extreme elevations.

Any help would be much appreciated!

You can create a topography from import and choose either a text file or an imported DWG/DXF.

Viveka and Toan were very close but the problem you are having is that Revit CAN'T use the 3dmesh object in the DXF file. If you open the DXF and "EXPLODE" the 3dmesh will become 3D Faces - which you can then use.

Revit 2017 - How to Bring Cadmapper into Revit and convert to Topography

PS. Thanks a million for turning me on to Cadmapper (Awesome site!!!)

Incredibly happy with the responses. Thank you all 🙂

If I were to go down the path of the other file (increased accuracy) how can I translate these spot elevations into Revit? Also there are some extreme changes in elevation which would need to be suppressed since they appear as "spikes" in 3D views.

Have you attached this other file? You should be able to easily delete the bad point causing the spikes. Load the file if you want us to look at it.

I think what you think are elevation markers are the city grid coordinates....

While the lines are at elevations, I wonder if those are the building heights and not the base of the buildings. That would explain the spikes, as their maps are made to create extruded buildings.

Also, with a 2 mile radius, I would bring it into Infraworks vs Revit.

Wow, that was quite a challenge. Your spot elevations are actually text values which Revit Toposurface will not see as usable graphics. So the trick is to turn them into an object that can be used by the "Create from Import" tool. By using the Express tools>Enclose in object I was able to get it to work. As usual too many steps for words, so here is a video:

Revit 2017 - How to turn text values into graphics to be used for toposurface

Also, I am attaching the files I created.

Good Luck, and make sure you get the units correct.
