Can't tag room because none of the created elements are visible

Would anyone know why I can see potential room tags when I go to tag a room, but when I click in the space, I get the following message: "None of the created elements are visible in... You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings." I doubt its a VG issue as other room tags appear just fine with their corresponding blue bounding box. The ones that don't show up, don't show a blue bounding box, but do show the correct tag when hovering over the space.

Not quite sure what you're saying, but you might create a room schedule to aid in troubleshooting. You can highlight rooms from schedule (Highlight in Model). You can delete rooms as well through schedule. Might be easier to just delete and redo.

If the Room Limit Offset is lower than the View Cut Plane but still within the View Range then the Room Tag will show when you are trying to Tag the Room, but will disappear when you finish the command.

I don't think the tag will show if the bounding box isn't being cut in the view -- unless it isn't actually a room tag. Hmm?

That is the thing. It only shows when you initiate the command and hover over the Room. When you click to finish the action, it is gone.

...and hence the message that the element you just created are not visible in the view. I get it. But the element is still there - just unseen.

We don't have a room schedule yet, but I made one real quick, and those rooms which won't tag don't appear on the schedule. We have a number of linked in models as well, but I checked their VG settings and room tags were on.

Just create a Plan Region covering the entire invisible Room area, set the Cut Plane to lower so that the Room will be cut, then the Tag will show.

Well then: They either don't exist in the Phase you're scheduling, or...they don't exist in the project, period. Are you, by chance, using PHASES?

You're placing Room Tags while in Section views? Then I think I know what's happening.

You're probably tagging rooms that aren't necessarily within the extents of the Section view. Go to a Plan view, select the Section, and see what its extents are. If you can't see the dashed blue line bounding box, set the properties of the Section to crop the view and to have one of the clip settings turned on. Now drag the extents of the view to include all the rooms you will want to tag in it.

After you tag them, you can drag the extents of the Section back to where you want them, in case it altered you view in any undesirable way, and the new tags will still display.

What happened is someone in my office took out the interior of the model into a separate interiors model and most likely took the rooms with it. Now that interiors model is linked and somehow I'm seeing the room labels but I can't actually tag them. We do have phasing too. The whole thing is a **** show...

Fun fact: you CAN tag Rooms from a link.

I had the same problem and I've tried to check any immaginable visibility stuff in Revit without any positive result. At the end I did tag all Rooms with Tag All command and then deleted other tags I did not need them.

One other thing to check:

-Make sure the Linked model is set to Room Bounding. Select the link while in the host model, under Properties

check Room Bounding.

Adding a reply to this thread because I was encountering the exact same problem when trying to tag a room from a linked model, but the solution I came to was different. It turned out there was a chainlink fence element in the linked model that was making the room boundaries go all wonky. The fence has an unconnected height below the top of the room and it was set to be room bounding. I'm guessing turning off Room Bounding on the fence would have solved the issue, but the linked model is not mine, so I don't want to go making changes like that. I am actually working with spaces in my MEP model, so I added a space separator on one side of the chainlink fence and then the space was visible for tagging.
