Distortion of 3d dwg when imported into Revit

Hi All,

I have a 3d DWG model that one of my architect's is trying to import into Revit, the dwg was exported from Rhino, which we unfortunately do not have access to.

In AutoCAD the element appears correct, as well as in Navisworks, however it distorts in Revit. We have tried it on various PCs and it does not appear to be a graphics card issue.

How far is the model from WCS 0,0,0 in AutoCAD? How far is this from the Revit's Origin?

Thanks for the quick reply, I located the corner of the element at 0,0,0, I also tried to WBLOCK the whole object as well as an single beam element and it still performs the same way in Revit.

It is imported into a Metric Generic Family at the intersection of the centre grids.

Perhaps ask them to export to SAT instead of DWG.

We managed by opening the dwg in Sketchup and exporting it back to DWG, it worked in Revit after that.

Still not sure what the original problem is.

Will make sure the incoming Rhino generated work is in .sat format as well in future, thank you!

Post the dwg file, if you will.

A closer look might bring up something.

a lot of thing can mess up the importing /linking

Trying to import 3D model into Revit

Hi there,

I have a question that I'm hoping someone could help me with..

I have been asked to render a 2 storey house for a building designer who uses Chief Architect.

I want to import it into Revit & then use Lumion for this.

Can anyone tell me if I can actually import this model (that has been created in Chief Architect) straight into Revit, as opposed to having to draw it from scratch?

you can export your chief architect file as .DWG then open revit program, you can go INSERT > select LINK CAD and see if helps. thanks

Thankyou! I did try that but the file isn't showing up when I choose that option...

It shows up if I choose Import CAD or Import PDF, but not when I choose Link CAD??

i think the file is there? try to zoom to fit? but it you managed to import cad it's okay as long as you can see the file, thanks

I can import it but it's just a flat 2D pdf image, not 3D, which is what I need...

your file must be in 3D mode/view before you insert as import cad into revit program and must also your revit is in 3D mode too.. thanks

Ok, thank you for that! So if I go back to the Designer & ask them to export in 3D mode, that should work?
