It is a sketch in the family member.

It is just a "Test" part, to see what Revit can.

So i would like a part in the shape of the sketch, but in a way so I can edit the top part and keep the bottom in the same placement and size

Hi,

I am trying Revit to see if I can use it in my job.

I was trying out the family part option, and 1 ting annoyed me.

Is it possible to lock a part of the sketch with dimensions. As you can see in the picture below do I have this sketch. I would like to have it, so when i change the upper rectangle, the bottom stays with the 40300 mm from the edge, and with a size of 18000 mm. Also if I change the upper rectangle in both ways.

Is the possible or is it only possible to "constraint" when lines is touching each other?

What is this a sketch of? Is it a Floor Footprint, something in the Family Editor, etc?

When you say Family Member, I'm guessing you are working in the Family Editor?

I would use Reference Planes, Parameters and Locked Dimensions- with this combination, you can easily achieve what you are looking to do.

No need to be annoyed!!

Click the dimension that you would like to 'lock' - a little padlock will appear. Click on it to lock the dimension. That dimension will remain unchanged.

However, to make the 'lock' more effective, I would -

1) create reference planes

2) use the Align command to make the reference planes match up with the feature and then 'lock' the little padlock that appears

3) place the dimension between the reference planes, NOT the feature, and lock

Option 1 : Inplace family, I think you are using this, this will create a family with all the dimensions flexible..

Option 2: Create a Revit Family " rfa " file, can be floor based, plane based ( select the category you need "

and then create a proper family..

Note: Give dimensions, and parameter only to Reference Plans and Reference lines.. and then you can

lock the sketch profile to those reference..

Directly locking any dimension to sketch profile will create anchors in the family which may not behave the way you want..

Cheers!
