Multi Story Projects

Help!

We are creating a database of our facilities to use for space allocation proposals. But, in Revit Projects that have multi stories its difficult to isolate single story views. Is there a simple way to copy/paste one level/story from a multi-story existing project without getting the other levels too? Or do we have to (as we suspect) create a separate Project for each level/story?

You should create Views ( Floor Plans ) for each Level--(Levels in Revit host walls, fixtures, etc. and are horizontal datum/planes running through the entire 3D model.)

You can Duplicate Views ( Floor Plans ) of any Level, to have many different types of plans for any Level--such as Walls/Doors/Rooms,

Furniture Plans, Equipment Plans, Finish Plans, etc.

If you want a 3D View showing only a single story--use a Section Box and crop the model -- in a Section or Elevation View and drag the crop

box to show only the floor and floor above/ceiling, etc.

You can do this for every story by duplicating the 3D View and then adjusting the Section Box.

What about Filtering? One filter you could use would be "Level".

Whats your goal?

1. To Export individual levels in CAD format? or PDF?

2. To Export Individual levels in separate Revit Files?

Cliff,

This is helpful, but the entire data set still exists and bogs down the model. Is there any way to pare down the data too? Let me explain. I had to draw an actual representation of a large warehouse. I found the BIM of the 5 shelf industrial stack-able shelving. I then had to place 1200 of them in the view. this made loading the Project very cumbersome. I can reduce the view in the manner you suggest, but Revit still wants to "load" the total 1200 shelves in the model or view. My employer wants the view to show and actual picture of the shelving. Even if the view being shown is only a small portion of the total. Is there someway to have Revit remove the work of placing the BIM objects that are not actually being seen?

Split into Worksets. They can be controlled to load and show, or not load and show.

Suggestion:

Check the file size of the shelving Family; Purge it to make it smaller. Reload into Project. Performance should improve greatly.

Model performance is not entirely based on "how many objects" are in the model-- you can load up a 30 story building with full hotel rooms--if the Families are "light" enough, and Groups are prepared correctly, etc.

I suspect the shelving model may also have too many Parameters, Formulas, Arrays, etc--which are useful in the familt itself--but will bog down the model

when loaded in and hundreds of instances are placed.
