Animation in Revit

Is there a way to "animate" things in Revit?

Actually it is not a real animation but I have to display a bridge open and closed.

I want to do it without copying the model (several linked types of bridges).

Maybe with phasing?

You could use Phasing.

Or probably more appropriately, you could use Options.

Make an option with the bridge open, and make an option with the bridge closed.

Thanks, this can be a workaround but I still have to copy a second (open version) of the bridge (this is actually the same as hiding something).

Or am I wrong and missing something?

I am searching for something like :

View A: closed bridge

View B: same model but rotated, open bridge (other phase)

I probably have to do this in Max.

If the bridge is a family you can assign a rotation parameter and rotate it on the fly with a slider.

Hi @-FDC-

I've tried a similar concept for a hybrid furniture model.

Here is what was done: (4 models for 2 spaces)

Design options A,B,C,D for Space layout 1,2
Rendered two hi-res jpeg images for each design option per space.
One image with full model, one with half-hidden elements/model per space (16 images)
Combined images in sequence with an Image processor to export to an AVI format. (Not seamless animation but output was productive)

Another option is to try a Revit walkthrough for each phase (assign the same path in each phase/design option) and take it to Revit Live

View A - set to show Option A, which has a closed bridge

View B - duplicate view A, but set it to show Option B, which instead has an open bridge

My apologies for my late reply but I am kind of busy!

Project was a case study for different (5) type of bridges.

I think @ToanDN provided the best answer but my bridges aren't modeled as families.

They are all separate projects which I then linked in the "scenery project".

The goal was to easily import the scenery in Max (which worked quite nice btw).

Render the whole, re-import the Revit file but now the Rotated view and render again.

I wanted a revit view with a rotated bridge and a view with a non rotated bridge but it seems that isn't possible without making a copy.

Now I had to render the whole, do a rotate in Revit, re-import it again in Max and re-render.

No big deal but the railings are autocad objects (export from sketchup) and gave some problems.

Result could have been better but because of the lack of time and changes to the designs it was good enough.

I think that we can assign elements into a specific phase and then automatically running it by Dynamo.

Dynamo is used for controlling Phase Created in Properties Pallete. It seems to be smoother than the mount images.

Probably but I didn't find the time yet to start learning Dynamo.

I know I should start with it as soon as possible but I am almost mentally insane because of the reinforcement problems I had or still have in Revit.

If you have Revit through a Suite or Collection, you should also have access to Navisworks Simulate and/or Manage. Both include some basic object animation tools, which allow for real-time object movement (i.e. you can look at it from different locations while it's moving); object animation is also included when published to NWD and can be run (but not modified) in Navisworks Freedom.

... if you take a bunch of pictures from your bridge in diferent positions

.... you can use movie maker from windows to glue all those images

... just a thought
