make top rail editable

How do i make the top rail editable?

i must be missing a setting because no matter what i do i can not independently select the top rail to change its profile.

below are images of the rail, rail setting and top rail setting. Help please!

Click on Profile row of the Top Rail type to change profile. If you need to create a new one then you have to do by editing or adding a new Profile.

Thank you! your response answered some other questions i had, but i think i used the wrong word... not profile maybe shape or path would be more appropriate?

Anyways, the image below is what i'm trying to create. its a typical guardrail extension.

Tab-click to select the top rail independently.
