Creating ICF Walls

Does Revit have a library of ICF walls? I am new to Revit, and I want to design an ICF home, and when I select Walls, there are no ICF walls to configure, like in Chief and Softplan.

Walls in Revit are System Families, which basically means they are built in to the software, you don't load them from a library you edit one of the provided walls, rename it, add/remove layers and set materials and thicknesses etc..

You can copy walls from another project using Manage Tab> Settings> Transfer Project Standards.

There are currently no default basic wall that are ICF. The company I work for created our own wall types by duplicating and modifying the structure of the wall to make our own ICF walls. Logix ICF has all their details (CAD, BIM, PDF) available on their website if you need to reference rigid insulation sizes and concrete thicknesses. Hope this helps!

Thank you for the response. I am amazed that Revit does not have OOTB functionality for ICF wall types. I am learning the Revit system for 30 days, the same as I did with Chief Architect and Softplan, both have default ICF wall types that can be modified. The example I am showing is the ICF stucco wall type from Chief, and I was trying to find a way to replicate this in Revit. Chief also has this same feature for the foundation wall, that includes the footer. Is there a video or some instructions to explain how to build ICF walls in Revit? Thank you.

Start drawing a wall. click edit type, duplicate, rename to ICF wall of your choice. Edit Structure. You might have to create your own materials first, and to do that you select the 3 dots on the right of the material name. Set your thicknesses and functions. You can preview a floor plan or section using preview on the bottom left.

Thank for the post. It was very helpful, as I am trying to learn Revit. I made an ICF wall, however, in the preview, it does not show the cross-sectional materials for the applied material, and it only shows up as lines in the floor plan. How can I get the wall to show all of the properties? Thanks in advance.

Check to see first that your floor plan view is set to fine detail, second, in your materials, did you set a cut pattern? If not then do that and it should work 🙂

I see...there is pull-down menu to change it to other things like "air layer" etc.

Thanks for all your help. I just have a couple of other things for this ICF wall topic, which I know could be related to other topics. I have posted two images.

1. How can I make these lines thinner in the 2D view?

2. In 3D, there are no patterns, etc. How can I show patterns and colors for the ICF wall?

For all views if you have the thin line option turned on, all lines show as thin lines. (my keyboard shortcut for that is 'TL', otherwise the button is located on the very top ribbon) For cut patterns in 3d, you have to cut the wall using a section box, and for surface patterns, you have to add them to the material that is you finish material.

I found the thin line button, but getting the 3D to show colors is a bit of a challenge. I selected a color for the stucco, but it still won't show up in 3D, and I selected gray for the concrete, but again, nothing shows up. Thanks for all your help.

You have set the colour of the pattern. If you go to appearance you can set colour and other items there as well. Your view also has to be in shaded/realistic/consistent colour mode for the entire wall to change colour, and that is dependent on you shading option under graphics. It will render according to the appearance settings though, so I always check the use render appearance box.
