Reveals + Splitting Wall Surface

I'm using a V-shaped reveal on the exterior of a precast panel. I would like the reveal to separate the exterior face of the wall so I can apply a paint pattern.

The project I'm referencing has reveals that separate the exterior faces of walls and I have no idea how. I even imported the reference project's reveal into my project and it still behaves differently.

Also, I do not want to use the "split face tool" to dissect the whole wall. I want the interior face to be one solid surface still.

Please let me know if you're aware of any tips or tricks.

Two separate walls on top of each other. Place the reveal at the junction. Place a second wall on top of the first. Then join geometry, and it cuts itself out of the other field. Same number of lines as split face, or drafting it, and its a more stable result...

I attached the reference project.

I just found out that the reference project used the "split-face with wall reveal" trick from this webpage: https://bimtionary.blogspot.com/2010/02/split-face-with-wall-reveal.html

I read the instructions but still do not understand how to make it work. "Create a tiny 1/16" x 1/16 wedge. Select Finish Sketch."

How do you create this wedge? The reference project has the split face away from the exterior wall surface. Also, you never "select finish" when using the Split-Face tool.

The reference project modeled the walls as pieces on the exterior for the panels and continuous walls for the interior. What about it that you cannot replicate?

I would rather use a single wall, place V-shaped reveals, create parts from the wall, and split parts where the reveals are. there you have more control over material options for different panels (parts) without messing up with split face and paint.

Are you asking how to make a wall reveal?

A reveal has a 2D Profile Family associated with it. In the project you posted, the Wall Reveals are made using the "RPA Reveal - Concrete 1.5 Vee" family (located in your Project Browser under "Profiles"). If you want to use this Profile in your Project, then copy it over and assign it to your Wall Reveal Type.

When you select Wall:Reveal (under Walls on the Architectural Tab), the default Reveal Type will be shown in the Properties. That Reveal Type has a Profile Family assigned to it. You can check or change what Profile it's using through the "Profile" drop-down box located under its Type Properties. The Reveal Type being used in the Project you posted, is named "Reveal - 1 1/2" Vee", which was likely made by duplicating and renaming the OOTB "Reveal". You can name yours whatever you like, or not at all.

Alright, I got it figured out!

I used the "Split-Face with Wall Reveal" trick as mentioned above with the link. My problem was that I confused "Split Face" with the "Split Element" tool.

Select a Wall > select "Split Face" (icon looks like a 90's computer screen) > go to a corner and draw a singular, diagonal line > select "Finish Edit Mode" (Screenshot attached)

Now, magically, the reveals separate the exterior face of the wall for materials to be applied.

That works, but it's very risky. Moving a window or shifting a wall could break the entire thing and nobody would know why.
