I drew my roof ridge the I added my roof rafters how do you trim or extended them once they are in

You'll need to create a family for that condition.

...use you existing family as a starting point. Save it under a new name and then modify the end to match the slope angle. Then load and go.

In a Section or Elevation, place a Reference Plane at the end of the rafters.

Then use Cut Geometry to trim the ends of the rafters.

every one was a great help. ive learned so much from you guys.the screen cast was great especially with the audio .this way I can follow the commands and logic he used to accomplish the task. I will try the family as well but would you have to create more than one family cause it would change depending on slope as well as roof size? or does formula take that into effect?

Ha! That question says it all! I should stick with "old school", for sure. Obviously, my Screencast efforts have failed miserably today!

What I was trying to convey through the Screencast, was that YOU CAN make a parametric family "adapt" to its "environment". That's the whole idea. But whatever; there's always the alternative: laying down Ref. Lines and trimming individual members -- one-by-one for each and every scenario.

Be sure that I , also prefer to work with parametric rafters as you suggested....you work a little more at the beginning , but later you'll have more control and it will much easier when you'll have a large amount of rafters .

As, about the assumption that you are the elder one....I am sure that it isn't true ..I figure , I am the one...
